My little girl is 4 months old and has always been a great sleeper. She was already sleeping through the night but for the last few nights she has been waking and stirring constantly. She isn't napping anymore during the day and she isn't hungry when she wakes. I don't know what i can do but if i dont do something soon im not going to last! sooooooo tired. Please help!

she sleeps in a crib next to my bed and always has, nothing has changed at all. i dont go to her straight away she is left to stir until she cries to let her sleep again on her own and that used to work. i think you are right. i think she is going through a stage in her growth that is making her more aware.

From what you say about her lack of symptoms, it doesn't sound like teething to me, but we found our two changed their sleep pattern at around 5 months. I think it's just as they become more aware of their surroundings. Has anything changed in her bedtime routine, or where she sleeps? If not, then she maybe just needs to learn to settle herself back to sleep. Do you get up as soon as she stirs or do you wait until she seems upset? Do you cuddle her until she goes back to sleep? Maybe you could try going to soothe her only if she seems upset and then putting her back in her crib/cot as soon as she calms down but before she is asleep. There may be a few tears (from you and her) and a few nights even more disturbed than now, but if you can get her to learn to settle herself then it will help in the long run.
Good luck

well if it is teething she has got it easy because she never cries or screams unless she is hungry or there is a stranger (to her) in the room and i leave. i cant see any teeth coming through but this could be it. although she is having no rosey cheeks, no fussiness, no loss of appitite, she drools but all babies do and she puts things in her mouth but all babies do that too. so i dunno, i guess time will tell. thanks so much :)

Sounds like teething. Hate to break it to ya but just because she was a good sleeper doesn't mean she always will be. During the first year they have their ups and downs where sometimes they sleep good and sometimes they don't. Before my son cut his first two teeth (at 5 months old) he wasn't taking naps for longer than 20 minutes during the day and he was up every hour or two at night. It was harder than when he was a newborn. He is now almost 13 months old and sleeps great almost every night from about 8pm until around 8am. But that didn't start until he was 10 and a half months old!

Try some tylenol or motrin before bed. She could be teething and you wouldn't know it until, out of the blue, 2 teeth pop through in one day! :-)

She could be teething my daughter did the same thing. I gave her teething tablets and now she is good. It could also be gas maybe that is making her uncomfortable.

thanks so much everyone, these are great suggestions, she isnt teething yet and she has a bath evernight before bed, she has been really gassy since the day she was born and hasnt ever had colic. i havent started solid foods yet but maybe i will try some baby rice in her bottle to fill her more. all i can do is try i suppose

Teething and gassiness are my 2 best guesses.
My daughter started cutting her 2 bottom teeth at 3 months. She refused teethers, medicince, everything. Except my finger. I made sure it was clean, and let her chew on it.
My son, on the other hand is gassy. He's only a few weeks old, and I'm learning to deal with it. He spits up, gets a lot of hiccups, and I'm constantly changing diapers because I'm not sure if he added a surprise with the smell or not. Rubbing his tummy seems to help. A LOT.
Have you talked to your pediatrician? I know I can call the nurse and ask all kids of questions, and they are very helpful. Even over the phone. I'd try that if you aren't getting anywhere. Go with your intuition. Mothers know best.

Check for teething pull back her lips gently from her gums and see if you can see the white line of a new tooth hovering under the gum.
check both top and bottom gums, usually bottom teeth come first but not always.
If its not teeth do you have a pet in the house that is visiting her room in the night. Or is there a flowering tree, bush or plant outside her bedroom window? some times allergies can set off this kind of behaviour as well if you have started her on solids she may be experiencing abdominal discomfort, or even be developing a problem with milk if she is not breastfed, (though she could also be reacting to something new in your diet if you are breastfeeding)
She may be needing more physical activity during the day, so make sure she is getting time down on the floor on a clean blanket or sheet , tummy down, supervised of course, You could also hang a soft infant ball that has a bell inside from string from a bar suspended across her crib rails just barely touching her feet to help strengthen and entertain her, make sure it its securely fastened so it can't fall on her.
Check her room for any odd sounds that may be awakening her, and also take her to the doctor to rule out ear infection or colic, it could also be gas, to check for this support her head and upper body with one hand and her hips and legs with the other gently hold abdomen or right side against your ear and gentley sway side to side with her, if you hear a sound like rolling rocks you will know that it is gas in her intestines, place her sitting back to your tummy and rub gently in a clock wise motion from right to left to move the gas down and out.
Is she crying when she awakes? and are you seeing any discharge on her sheets where her head is? if so it probably and ear infection and you should take her to the doctor.
If its colic ie there is green in her poop you could try some pepper mint tea, boil some water for a mug of tea dunk a pepper mint tea bag in the water til the water just turns colour, pour the 'tea' into half a four ounce baby bottle then add cool water to top up test for temperature, you can add a half or quarter teaspoon of sugar, then give to baby. Usually babies like this, peppermint relaxes the muscles and tastes soothing. Its a short term remedy while you figure out what foods are causing the problem.
If you give your daughter apple juice you may want to eliminate this for two or three days to see if it makes a difference also.
I hope I've provided some 'food' for thought and tommorow if possible go for a nap with your daughter! or call on help if possible so you can get a nap. I was able to have a daycare take my daughter for an hour while I had a nap to catch up when my other daughters where cutting two year and four year bicuspids etc. and I was up with all of them one after another!

is she gassy?? i had a vibrating bouncer chair for my daughter and she absolutely loved it and never wanted to get out of it. theyre only 30 dollars at target!
i dont remember the age for "real" food but maybe give her gerber infant cereal and make sure she is nice and warm when you put her down. warm cozy and full babies sleep better :) Good Luck!!

They go thru a sleep change pattern. So thats probably whats going on. When this happened with my lil one we would just set her in her crib or bassinet and put on some lullabys and sometimes U just gettin a 20 or 30 minute break will help you to make it thru the day! I promise she will start sleeping again soon! Its all a part of her growing! Good Luck!
