I always think it is lovely to give a new baby a unique name but i think that whatever name you choose for your baby must be able to be pronounced and read because you dont want your child having to explain and spell thier name out whenever they want to speak... i believe that what they say should be the most important thing and not the fact that the message is somewhat diluted due to the fact that they have to expain who they are prior to the message! What do you think???

skip the name books and grab a dictionary. we picked out Storm Michael for one of our kids...but had a girl...but it was more interesting that way!

I personally prefer more old fashioned names that you just don't hear that often anymore. Like Arabella, Scarlet, Edie, Addison, Adele, Etta and Charlotte for girls and Malachi, Tobias, Detrich, Ezekiel, Jonas, Jude and Lincoln for boys. But some other names I really liked were Aarona (air-ron-uh), Dezi, Chantal and Ansley for girls and Emery, Landon, Logan, Brody and Reegan for boys. My 2 kiddos are Lucas Cole (Cole is a family name) and Sadie Jolee (Jolee we got from combining my mother and my hubby's mothers middle names. Sadie means princess and Jolee means happy.....she is without a doubt a happy princess!! LOL). My grand neice has a very unique name that I just adore.....Shaunessy Renae (Renae is my middle name--different spelling though) Good luck.

Can I ask you why they have to be unique any name you pick will be unique just remember your child has to live with that name for their life. My children have not popular names but okay names Bradley and Kaitlyn..... I guess normal type names... and I guess they like them.....

Quoting Betsy:

Girls....Callyn, Aria, Avia, Alleah, Briley, Shenna, Tayla, Taya, Bria, Gracen, Jayla, Jaylyn, Kassia, Acadia, Calla, Sariah, Crishelle, Emerson, Carrington, Sage

Boys...Jagger, Cade, Stone, River, Kane, Rocco, Kanan, Cannon, Gage

I think it is great that my name is on here (mine is spelled with a K though). I am 20 and have only met two other people with my name.

I don't really think my son's name is unique but it is not common either (Trenton). If I would have had a girl we were going to name her Auhna (Ah-na) so that is a little different from the traditional Anna. I also like the names Wyatt and Quinton for boys. Another name for a girl is Aubrey (this was a close second for us, we were going to use Renee as the middle name).

For a girl I have liked LATASHA KIM and when I was expecting twins when I had my son, (I lost the other twin at 5 months pregnant) I called my son I have now TERRAINE DYLAN and the other twin was going to be called TEAK LORANEL. Those are strange names don't you think.
When my daughter was born, I named her LORETTA LEIGH but found since then others have Loretta.

Aubrielle or Aubriele

Ambrielle or Ambriele

Kennedy or Kynnedie

Lynnea

All of these are for girls. Pretty obvious I think, bt still had to say it.

My husband wanted musical names for our children, since he is a musician. Our daughter is Amanda Lynn for a mandolin. And our son is named Traben for the brand of bass that he plays. For a girls name we were going to go with Elise Sonata.

I have Jaymee for a girl (Jaime) and Broghan for a boy.
Broghan can be a unisex name and you can drop the H too.
Why not google a name to do with your heritage? I did that with my son - Scottish baby names - and got some very interesting names.
Good luck x

I have a friend named Fierah (fee-air-ah) and I always loved her name.

Also, sometimes if you look at older names, even from the early 1900's, you may find some really unique names. My grandmother's first name is Angusina and her sister's name was Euphemia, Effie for short.

As for boy's I know a little boy named Asa and he's the only one I know. I also like the names Ezra, Jonah, Holden, Weston and Parker for boys.

One of my favorite girl names is Kennedy. We could not come to an agreement on that name so in the end we named our daughter Addison.

For a boy Marshall is different. I have 3 boys I wanted them to be different but once again no agreement. But my youngest sons middle name is Kane. But it depends on what kind of unique you are looking for. Good luck with your decision.

Chivess, (pronounced sha-vess), for a boy or girl also, Millicent for a girl. Good Luck.

[deleted account]

Do you have any particular letters that you'd prefer the names start with?
I named my daughter Canon. I was going to use that name whether I had a boy or girl. I tend to favor androgynous names.
Here are some names that I like that I consider unique:
Teague, Teagan, Oakes, Brock, Maceo, Willow, Bex
Good Luck! I'm interested to know what you finally choose!
