My 4 month old has a nasty cough and is full of flem. His father has a bad cold right now. He has no temperature and is eating and playing normal. But hearing his cough is just awful. I was just wondering if anyone knows anything that can help with this issue. Like help make the cough not to bad?

you need to get him to the doctor asap, my daughter did the exact same thing, and they immediately wanted her in the office bc things can change sooo quickly with a baby, and RSV is going around in babies a lot more this season than ever before. My daughter's doctor put her on an antibiotic and breathing treatments until it was gone, it took about a week or so. But, I just went through this exact same thing, I would call the dr and get him in asap.

Get diffuser. Put a few drops of Certified PureTherapeutic Grade Eucalyptus essential oil in the water. Then let it run with the baby in the room so he can inhale the aromatics. The eucalyptus is an expectorant that will help dissolve thick mucus in the trachea, bronchi, or lungs for easier elimination. This should also help to quiet/calm his cough. AND make sure he is getting plenty of fluids. Proper hydration can help loosen thick secretions, making them easier to eliminate.

If he is coughing anything up, that is a great thing. At least he is getting it out. With 3 kids, I battle a lot of coughs. My best advice for this age is to buy a good warm mist humidifier, and the vicks inhalent steam medication to put in the top. Use it as much as you can in his room. This will help break things up so he can cough it out better. I also used to raise the head of the crib a little bit so that it was a bit easier to sleep. I've always used a folded blanket and put it under the head end of the crib raise mine up a little. Doesn't sound like much, but it always helped mine to sleep a little better. The hospital also taught me to put a couple of drops of plain saline nose spray up each nostril and then use the nasel aspirator. The saline really helps to loosen up so that you can get a lot out. I was freaked out to do it the first couple of times, but it doesn't hurt them, I promise! Hope this has helped you some!

My daughter gets a cough alot and at that age you cant give them any medicine unfortunately. What I did was put a vaporizer in her room they even have waterless ones now and i got baby vapor rub put it on her chest and bottom of feet after giving her a nice warm shower with you the steam will help if it persists i would talk to her Dr my daughter when she gets sick she gets bronchial asthma so she gets a nebulizer.
