Like I said solids before one are just for fun, so there is no reason to spend 2 hours trying to get her to eat, if she's not interested don't force it. Also teething is very painful which may be why she has no interest in solids. What are you considering a meal? Most children graze and don't eat full meals like you or I, there is no way I would be spending two hours to get my kids to eat a couple of tablespoons.

Is he teething? Is he still drinking formula or breastmilk? As long as he is then you don't have to worry because that should be his primary source of nutrition till he turns one. Has he ever eaten solids, we really need more info be able to help.

You're welcome. My memory is a touch foggy since 8 years have passed since I had to deal with a fussy baby, but I recall doctors and professionals making it easy to understand how we know what our babies/children need:
Our bodies naturally know what we need, how much to eat, when we are full, and when we feel thirsty/hungry/ill, etc. It's society that has programmed us to "eat everything on our plate" (to not be wasteful) and to "finish our meals" and eat X, Y, and Z at certain times of the day.
But doctors will typically all agree that it's as we grow older that we stop "knowing" what our bodies need because we have been programmed to eat too fast, eat too much, or eat when we are already full. So it's considered "negative" to teach children to ignore their bodies and just "eat it anyway". It causes obesity, unhealthy eating habits, and even digestive problems.
Children eat based on their bodies and what they feel. That's actually a healthier way to live than the way *most* of us adults tend to eat.

Shouldn't take 2 hours. Either they are hungry or not. Offer food first, then a bottle/sippy, especially if the baby isn't really consuming much. At 10 months mine are all [child care] self-feeding as much as possible. It's extremely important at this age that they have the 5-senses complete sensory experience of self-feeding. They also eat table food from 9 months. I use a Pampered Chef chopper to mince it up for them then just place it on their tray. Even if they don't "eat" it, the baby will get plenty in their mouth and begin to accept the flavors of different foods through exposure. I agree, until 12 months, most of their nutrition comes from formula or breast milk, but it's really important that they begin to be exposed to different flavors of food at this age. Teething will cause them to back off from eating as well. Also, if the baby has been eating baby food for a while, frankly, it gets boring. Adding in some spices and mixtures, increasing the amount of texture, etc. can make it more interesting for the child.

I agree with others - as long as she isn't losing weight, don't stress too much. Just keep exposing her to solids and when she wants something - give her more of that. As a side thought - it could be that solids are giving her belly problems. Track what she likes and what she doesn't like to see if there is a connection. Try giving her baby meds to sooth upset tummies and see if that makes a difference. Then stop stressing and watch her weight.

My daughter wouldn't eat baby food at all and much preferred her milk (she was breast fed At about 7 - 9 months I started to give her slightly cooked carrots and broccoli) and some children's heathly puffed snacks as finger food. She really was very happy with this. She is 4 now and has a massive appetite!

What have you tried? Finger foods like grapes, orange sections, crackers with peanut butter?
Have you tried sitting down to demonstrate eating with your child? Taking a bite and going yum....smiling etc. and then offering a bite of the same food to the child is an age old method of feeding a baby and teaching them to like new tastes!
If this child is not eating food what is it doing to sustain itself....just drinking beverages?
Are you only offering prepared jar baby food? Have you tried feeding the child the same food you are eating, but putting it through a baby food grinder so the child can eat it too? Hopefully you are not a processed food/fast food/ frozen dinner mom who doesn't prepare nutritious meals for her family. If you are....please get a cook book and try to learn to cook.

Every kid is different. Technically, I believe that it is okay for children to be on formula or breast milk only for the first year. If she is not gaining weight, that's a problem, but she should get all the nutrients she needs from the formula. I would still suggest consulting your pediatrician.

first u check urself either u give him food in time baby eat when he is hungry .u should try different foods by making different receipes like pudding of rice ,gravy of chicken,meat with bread.some children donot like prepared tin foods try him with foods u make at home.in pakistan where ilive mothers have to face such problems.

Try sifting through the brands first (my son would only eat ONE brand of certain ORGANIC fruits either alone or mixed in with the baby cereal). I should have known then that he'd be a discerning kid now, too lol (he's 8).
But seriously, I have found that the fruits are your best bet as far as getting to to "taste" new things. I never even bothered with the gross meats/pasta/veggie mixes because like a previous poster already said: The food isn't really NECESSARY as long as the child is getting plenty of nutrition and vitamins from formula and there's no health issues (ie: weight, developmental, motor skill problems, etc). However, keep in mind that you're supposed to have your child weaned off of formula entirely by 12 month and also have them basically "eating" and "drinking" normal foods by that time (meaning baby foods, baby cereal, fruit puffs/snacks, and slowly onto cow's milk) but I don't think it's a life or death matter if your baby takes a bit longer.
Try the fruit blends (wish I could remember exactly which ones I used) and definitely the first thing to try is mixing the baby cereal and formula (that I assume you're already trying) and then putting a little of the fruit on the spoon with the cereal (for flavor and texture) and/or mix it in to the cereal if that works better. That's the ONLY baby foods my son would eat and as it turned out, it was because he was ready for *certain* solid foods much earlier than usual and just didn't have interest in the baby foods.
Your child is definitely old enough to handle the baby-specific treats like the fruit puffs (snacks that look like dry cereal) and even the dried fruits in the baby section that also basically dissolve in the child's mouth but still engage their coordination skills (hand to mouth and swallowing) while also getting them used to the new textures, flavors, and smells associated with eating real foods. Don't worry....even babies are born to know what they need/like. Yours is probably either a little picky or just wants to skip the jar-baby foods entirely like mine did.

Your baby is probably just not ready. Stick to milk, juices and cereals. Reintroduce soft foods to him/her a little at a time. Purchase a mesh teether you can put fresh fruit in it and the suck and bite on it, It's messy but babies enjoy it. Remember babies like adults freak out with different textures so don't push to much on the baby at once.
Every child is different and yours will eat when they are ready.

Try putting anything for his/her age in a plate infront of ur child (such as small pieces of fruit , or bread ) and leave ur child to pick the pieces up as and wen they feel like it. That's how I got my girls to eat fruit, first she wouldn't touch it,then a while later she would have a lick, then next thing you know she starts chewing it!! Cheerios are good to!!

Try getting a baby bullet like seen on tv to make ur own baby foods! My son was the same way did want the baby food from the store so we would cook our dinner with out any salt or added flavors put it in the blender and he would eat it then!!! I took the bottle away before he turned 11months sippy cup for his formula and table food for the rest!! He isn't over weight or any health problems!!

My son was premature and has textural issues. He was almost exclusively breastfed till age one because he refused to eat anything with a texture he didn't like. (which was almost all of them) He finally started eating bread like items about one. He was rather tiny so my pediatrician put him on Pediasure about two and he grew so fast. He is now four and a half and his diet and and texture issues have greatly improved. Good luck Mama as long as your baby is growing and healthy don't worry to much.

Just be patient. My son is 18 months and just started eating food, we were so worried we considered occupational therapy. But when he was ready he did it. As long as your child is getting enough calories from milk and growing, I would just wait it out. Keep offering food, one day they will eat!

Wait. My second and third babies wouldn't eat baby food at all. They started on table food at about 10 months. If it takes more than about 15 minutes for her to eat then stop. Forcing her to eat food is not going to make any one happy. Wait a week, or even a month and she should take to food. She just may not be ready to eat yet.

My now 9 year old never really ate much until she was 1, I breastfed her and she never seemed interested in food, sometimes she grazed off my plate. It kind of depends on your kid's temperment if they are nursing well or taking a bottle don't sweat the food. Give it a rest for a bit, don't make yourself crazy force feeding her! Good luck mamma!
