hi guys please can you help just found out at 16 weeks that my baby is posistive for turners im so shocked, I googled it all afternoon and im still none the wiser. Got apt with genetisist tomorrow to explain it all. Im so shocked and frightened has anyone else been told this while pregnant? What did you decide to do? Thanks Emma x

Hi guys thanks for your comments and advice, just to let you know that I decided to end the pregnancy due to health complications of the baby. My baby Emily Rose was born sleeping peacefully at 18 wks on the 10th June 2012 she will be in my thoughts and prayers forever x

Can I ask you from a mother that has already got 3 children with special needs and its all got to do with genetic's does it really concern you having a child with special needs? My 2 yr old has Rett's syndrome and other GDD and my 9 yr old has Autism then my little 15 month old has Haemopilia B and their all genetic.

All decisions have already had to have been made by this point as she would be 24 wks along if she continued with the pregnancy at this point.

From what I just read about it I would not terminate. If it's treated early they can help with medications like Julie's daughter.



Don't terminate your baby girl just because she isn't "perfect". When you really think about it none of us are perfect.

My best friend has turners and it's not a huge deal. She's smart. A little short. But she's still taller than me and I don't have turners I'm 4 ft 7. She has had hormone therapy in her teens to help bring on her menstrual cycle and so forth. That's had some complications but she's ok, it was just a matter of finding the right balance of hormones for her. But she has been able to develop normally apart from not being able to have children.



I remember her telling me. Her mum was told she wouldn't live. You wouldn't know it now that there was anything wrong with her. She's 24 we've been best friends since kindergarden. She can be a pain sometimes lol. But she's a nice girl and I couldn't imagine her not being around.



She has a job. She's a loving Aunty and daughter. She's responsible. She's had to take on relatives kids. Probably the thing that's upset her the most is she may not be able to have her own kids. but that also depends on treatment. On the upside teen pregnancy isn't an issue. I can talk to her or get her to get in contact with you if it helps. I'm going to have a talk to her and see what other info she can give me.

Emma, I am the mom of an 11 year old daughter with Turner Syndrome. In most cases the testing is accurate. There are many challenges that your daughter COULD face but until your daughter is born you will not know what they are. I am still shocked that doctors are still making abortions seem like a needed choice. My daughter is wonderful. She has other challenges in her life that are completely separate from Turners. Where do you live? Have you been able to meet any girls with Turners? My daughter does not have any heart or kidney related problems, she has friends, she is beautiful, she is so special I just can't tell you. If you want to talk you can call me. I am so sorry. I was thinking as I started to read this that perhaps it came back positive, but maybe she had a mosaic form, which means only some cells are affected. I see that's not the case. Regardless, there is a lot known about Turner's Syndrome. The classic features are widely spaced nipples and a distinctive (not bad) face. These girls don't go through puberty and cannot have children. There are complications that can go with any chromosomal disorder, but looking at a huge list and fearing every symptom is not a good thing. Once born, tests will be done to determine which other features of it she has and needs treatment for. There is help in almost every area for children with chromosomal disorders and their families. It's extremely rare for a child with a chromosome disorder to have every feature of that disorder - they will likely have at least a few, but the lists you've seen describing it are not checklists that show all you will have to deal with should you have this baby. Some children, despite disorders, are an absolute joy. Their quality of life is what you make of it - it takes time and effort, but it can be done no matter what the disorder is. I would honestly not consider adoption though with a child you know has a disorder; it's so rare they end up in happy families long term...I'm not trying to be mean, I'm just saying what we've seen. The only exception to that would be open adoption where you find a family you want to have the child, and arrange it privately. I hope you are able to think everything through and have comfort with whatever you decide.

Hi Guys thanks for responding, I have just had the full results back from the amniocentesis and it has been diagnosed as full turners syndrome and there can be no mistake as it came up on the short PCR result too. Also turners means one of your chromosomes is missing there is no mistaking that. She currently has no evident problems according to scans and hubby want to wait until 20wk scan to see if any are there but im afraid that i may be leaving it too late if i do decide to terminate, that and i also don't want to feel this baby move. I am living day by day wondering if she will be alive tomorrow, its so frightening and stressful and then there's the fact that if i do go full term she may be stillborn, I don't know which is worse. I will be 18wk on Monday and have an appointment at the hospital to talk through my options tomorrow. I really am at a loss as to what to do :(

You have stated your points, I have stated mine and in the end it is 100% her decision as to what she is going to do or whom she is going to believe you, me or even the doctors, whether either one of us agree or doesn't plain and simple.

Sherri, Who says I have never gone through the idea of saying that my baby has a problem with it? Do you know me? No, you do not.
I do not close everything in my life to anyone. It is hard for someone to raise a child that can have problems. They do not necessary have to have a disease. As for a CVS being 100% accurate. No, I don't agree. Many times, my own family has gone through testing of some sort and they had to be accurate and then later on were told it was wrong. I'm sorry if you had gone through anything like you have disclosed. If you feel that abortion is necessary, well I guess that is your call. But abortion, is plain out murder. You may not agree all because a baby is "supposed" to be born with a disease or deformed. A baby has every right to live, no matter what. As for doctors from tests being 100% right...Then why is there so many babies that are born with no problems at all, that has had these tests done and was told their child had downs syndrome and etc? Because they doctors don't know everything...that is why. I cannot put you down, but if you believe in God, then you should know that one of His Commandments says, "Thou Shalt Not Murder". This babies, as with any other babies has every right to live. If God doesn't want the baby in this world, they will die. God will not give someone anything they cannot handle.

Emma, I hope you take it to heart, to study upon everything before you make a decision of not keeping your baby if you are thinking of abortion. I don't know you, but you will regret it. You will wonder.

Another thing...Sherri, do you know anything about resurrections? If you do, then you will find out that all living beings will be resurrected back. Even little innocent babies who died and even aborted. So, how would one feel to have an innocent baby being laid into a mothers arms that she had allowed to be murdered? That baby is looking into your eyes, it is all going to come back......How do you think the baby feels about being murdered? Just because someone is under 3 months pregnant, the baby feels things, he/she has a heartbeat. Read up on many babies who has cried from being burned alive and torn apart.

I know this posts didn't have nothing to do with abortion. But it seems that's what some doctors wants a mother to do, to get a burden off of their backs that may not have any problems at all. Look at many parents of children being born with problems, because of the neglegence of doctors. Look at many babies who were born with NO problems of any sort, after 100% ACCURATE tests came back of a baby having turners, or down syndrome. I would rather have a baby with the problem, than to abort a baby. If a baby wasn't aborted, you have that chance to love him/her and you have that chance that he/she is healthy. In many cases, I would have to say 9 out of 10 the doctors have misdiagnosed their patients.

I do believe in God Michelle and I am Christian but in the end you are not the one who has to raise a child with numerous medical or mental problems. A lot of mom's and families can never afford and most families, just look at the statistics will end up falling apart due to the added stress and financial hardship. Divorce rates are as high as 85-90% for parents with a special needs child.

Michelle if she has a CVS it is 100% accurate though. A initial diagnosis can be wrong but through further testing they can 100% tell you if your fetus has downs or turners or a multitude of other problems because they actually pull the DNA and test the DNA directly. Trust me I went through exactly what she is going through and you obviously have not.

Sherry, of course this is Emma's choice to decide. In my opinion, all because you believe that the doctors are 100% right, doesn't mean they are... Look it up for yourself.. Too many doctors are messing up and killing babies that are perfectly healthy. If God doesn't want a baby to be alive, the baby wouldn't be born. The doctors put so many medicines uncalled for into the body of the mother and it has deformed babies and caused diseases and etc. God will protect the babies. No doctor has control of it. They are right down stupid in alot of ways. Not all doctors are out to help their patients. They help kill them.

Emma, I don't expect you to listen to me. I hope you do make the right decision. You don't want to make a wrong one and carry it on your conscience for the rest of your life either. I also will have to say. If the baby isn;t meant to be, she/ he will not be. God gives obsticles, He is there for all. He will not allow anything that someone cannot handle. I'm sorry if you dont believe in God. But, You have to look at facts out there. Don't just go by what doctor says. They are more than likely to be wrong. There isn't a 100% that they are right!

I looked online about several different mothers who were told that their babies had some kind of problem and so forth.
One woman was told she had a baby outside of the womb and was given medication to abort. The baby wasn't outside of the womb and was born without a vagina and anus all because of the medication that was given to abort the baby. The baby would have been born normal and healthy if it wasn't for the misdiagnosis during pregnancy. The baby is however still alive at age 5. Here is the website...

There was another that stood out that I wanted to share. Salma Hayek is an actress. It is also online about her baeing pregnant. She was told that her baby was going to have down syndrome during pregnacy.The woman however still have birth to her baby...The baby is a HEALTHY BABY...nothing wrong with the baby at all.Here is the website.

There are other websites online that I have looked up. Punch in..." babies born healthy after misdiagnosis during pregnancy". There are so many and it is a right down shame. The doctors are not doing their jobs right. I don't care if someone else says they are. Not all of them are doing their jobs right at all. Very few are. I would take it into consideration of how many has gone through the idea of being told their babies aren't going to be normal and something is wrong with them and come to find out , there isn't a thing wrong with them. Don't let the doctors give you medicines during pregnancy. It can cause problems. Look at the poor woman that was told about her baby outside of the womb.

Please do not feel pressured by Michelle's comments either way. You are the one ultimately that has to make the right decision for yourself, your baby and your family. The tests they will perform are 100% accurate despite what Michelle says. They actually will take the babies DNA and will test it directly with no chance of error. Ugh I really disagree with Michelle. Trust me there are now tests that can tell you 100% and I would do what ever you feel you need too. Whether it be carry to term or abort. You can have a CVS or Amnio to confirm 100%.

Emma In my opinion don't believe everything that doctors tell you. I would get another opinion. There has been many cases to where a mother whom was pregnant was told that there was something wrong with the baby they were carrying. Some had aborted their babies and regretted it for life. Others had their babies and come to find out, there was nothing wrong with the baby at all, the babies were perfectly healthy. The doctors said there was something wrong and so forth and there wasn't a thing wrong at all with them.
If your baby has something really badly wrong with him/her, alot of times the child will miscarry. If the child is meant to live...you will carry and the baby will live.
I wouln't go by the doctor at all. A second or even a third opinion is good to have. But still I wouldn't abort at all. I don't know if you have thought that, but some things you have to take the good with the bad. I do hope for the best. I hope your baby is the most healthiesst baby ever.
