How bad is the depo injection?

I have been getting the depo shot for over 2 years and have not had a period at all. I have done a bit of research and they reckon its bad for your bones? I have also just started not sleeping properly, being quite moody and eating flat out not sure if its a side effect?



Previously i have had the implanon but had to get it removed as after having it in for 18 months i bled for 3 months straight. I also have been on the levlen ed pill but had stroke like symptoms so stopped taking it.



Can anyone answer any of my questions im starting to get worried about being on it oh and im only 21.....

yea slowly getting better finally seeing the specialist i need to now just to solve this dilemma lol

i am so over doctors i suffer from scoliosis/ curvature of the spine and i had to go to 5 differrent doctors before i found one that didnt say "your too young to have any back problems" drove me insane i nearly had a massive break down cause i felt like no one believed me

I know the feeling. They told me it was completely safe, however my blood sugars said otherwise. Needless to say I got a new doctor that tells me the side effects.

well i assumed they did when i went on it but none of them ever did so i just assumed i was wrong lol but i will def be telling him i think i am before hand

Hmmm. My dr always gave me them before my shot. Maybe it's because I have hypoglycemia. I just assumed everyone got them. But yes, letting your provider know you think you may be pregnant would be a very wise move. :)

none of the doctors that i have ever seen to give me the injection have ever given me a preg test only once cause i was about a week late due to financial difficulties

As I'm sure you now, you usually get a prenancy test before they give you the shot. :) Best of luck talking with your doc.

thinking i will def talk to the doc when i go back for next shot in a month but my hubby seems to think i am pregnant as i have been having craving also so will talk to doc about that too

On the depo your not supposed to get a period. Although for me the side effects are worse than getting pregnant (although I really don't want to be at this point in time.) I have hypoglycemia, So after 6 months of very low blood sugar, I got off. So its really a personal disision for you to make. Talk with your doctor about all the side effects, and base it off that. GL.
