Despite what everyone says about walking, dont bother with it. Trust me on this one. You need all the rest that you can get before labor and your second child gets here. You will have your baby when the time is right regardless of what you do. So put your feet up and milk this to the absolute max. Once you have this baby, relaxing time for you will be almost unheard of. lol Good luck and I hope all goes well.

From experience I have done the following: sex and have a glass of wine. Note: Ask your physician or midwife if it is safe before attempting either. Good luck!

my experience was i had drs visit told to go have lunch and then come back ,so we went to friendly`s and next day i was in hospital by 7am and she was born by c section @5pm weighting 10lbs.3oz.i can say it must be the coffee or icecream that did it for me.

i say listen to nicu nurse since babies do better when they are ready than if you rush them ,they don`t get sick as often. just watch how often they are coming and then get a hold of the dr ,keep your next office visit which should be soon since its near the end means wkly drs visits if it concerns you then call your drs office .if they admit you then they have things they can do other than meds like massages to make things go.they had to do this with my niece for her first and in the end had a c-section since they found out by cscan he was to big.

Sex and walking. Have 3 kids myself but the best way is to wait. When they are done and ready to come out they will come out. But walk, move around, go about your normal activities and just wait it will happen

As an NICU RN...it's really best to wait full-term.. Babies do sooo much developing the last few wks. I know ur going nuts and want to meet this little one, but "fully cooked" is always better outcome!!

I had a massage and pedicure at 37 1/2 weeks, and my water broke the next morning! It was NOT intentional, but looking back on it I definitely think one or both may have contributed to beginning my labor.

My midwife suggested an herbal supplement called Blue Cohosh (CONSULT YOUR DR OR MIDWIFE FIRST) it is available at natural food stores. It is a bitter pill that is used to stimulate uterine contractions when you are on your period, to help make your periods last for a shorter period of time. I took it to induce labor with both my children. My daughter was born 16 hours after I took it, my son was born 22 hours after I took it. My best friend had her baby 31 hours after taking it. Research it and give it a try.

hi danielle, dont try too hard to go into labour, you will just run yourself down, and as you already know you will need as much rest as you can get for when you do go into labour, reading some of the replys - just be very carefull if you decide to have a very hot bath because the babys temp is usually about one degree higher than yours so it is not really recommend to have very hot baths, unfortuantly being one centermeter dialated at 37wks with your second baby is quite normal because you cervix has already been stretched b4, so most women around that time are atleast 1cm, try not to worry too much most babies come when they r ready, but yes sex and walking can help but nothing is 100% effective.  good luck and enjoy your pregnancy, i know its hard when you get to this stage especially when you have another one to run around after, ive got 3 myself, a 4yrold, 3yrold and a 6mth.  Best of luck dee

sex sex sex and lots of sex, walking after sex, and what did it for me was eating chiense food and putting lots and lots of chiense hot mustard and then next thing i know, i am starting to contract. then a hour and half later, we were on our way to the hospital. maybe 6 1/2 hrs later, pop goes the turkey and we had our son. quick and easy.

I have to agree with Raechel A. When I was due with my second child I too was in a rush; I shared this with my midwife and she advised that the longer the baby stays in and develops the better the outcome will be for both mom and baby. The sucking reflex has to fully develop and even at 36 weeks that is not done. So I'd take my mind off of it and enjoy the last few weeks with just caring for one child. Believe me when you have two it is a lot of work. Maybe take your first child out and have some special prep time/activities so that you're all ready when baby comes home.

I was ready to have my baby so I turned the radio on and started "shaking" what my Mom gave me! so do something that is very active dont be afraid, my water broke later that day and she's very active not in a "special" way she loves to dance!

I tried the raspberry leaf tea... nothing but heartburn, evening primrose oil, nothing.... walking didn't help till after my water broke, castor oil has some risks that I decided weren't worth it. one site said it can cause the baby to have its first poop in the amniotic fluid, and if baby inhales it, it can make her really sick... so pass on that... I wanted to try sex by my hubby was scared my water might break during and that turned him off of the idea. I only tried for about a week and a half, and nothing more than braxton hicks contractions were caused by it, and when my water broke I was only 1cm and having no contractoins, at 3cm they had to induce me which lead to me having a c-section because even thou I was contracting BIG time I wasn't dilating. Take it from someone who tried.... its not worth it if you end up having that happen, but baby is worth it all!!

I actually tried that and my water broke a few minutes after. I was just shy of 38 weeks and was having no contractions.

when i was in labour with my youngest daughter the nurses at the hospital told me to walk up and down the hallway until i couldn't walk anymore,so my advise is to walk.

I was getting very uncomfortable towards the end of my pregnancy. I took raspberry leaf tea for the last 6 weeks of my pregnancy as it is supposed to help prepare your uterus for labour. Also if you have a breast pump, try pumping for 10-20 minutes, can bring on contractions. I pumped 2 days before I went into labour. Good luck!

Sex, sex, sex...i have 3 kids..two were enductions and the last one was supposed to be also however...the night before going to the hosp we had sex once more and then i woke up at 230 having contraction, went to the hospital at 430 and by 720 my son was born. So i personally do belive it was the sex that put me into labor. Good luck!

i have had 4 children and have tried everything from sex, castor oil, evening primrose oil, jumping lightly on trampoline, induction, stretching cervix, expressing milk, walking long distance, hot curry the list goes on and on... the little terrors come out in their own time not yours uless its a c-section of course but my first was 10 days over due they induced my labour but that made my labour go for 36 hrs my second i had dilated slowly for 14 days then had her my third they were unsure of my due date with her so when i started having contractions 5 mins apart and 2cms dilatedthey left me and in the end i went through that for 11 daysthen had her for them to say shes 6 wks early and had no sucking reflexes my fourth was 10 days slow dilation itried everything and one day i gave up trying and that night my waters just broke, mind you it was in my nice clean bed but i had her with in2 hrs after that. good luck and do something to get your mind off it i know thats harder than it sounds but dont tire yourself out because theres a lot to come yet

Also if you are tired of walking then sit against a wall or the bottom of the couch so that your back is straight...Like an indian style pose so that the baby's head is right in your pelvis. By using a wall or the bottom of a couch it helps you from wanting to lean back and put the baby in a more relaxed position. Even leaning forward in this position, as much as you can, and doing circles with your hips will help push the baby farther into the pelvic area putting pressure on your cervix to dilate.

u can try castor oil, but i would chat with ur md or midwife first, cuz it can work way faster than what u r prepared for.

having sex is the best way, along w/ a little breast massage. It helps get all those hormones going. Good luck & congtartulations on #2!

Walk, walk, walk! The day before my due date I wanted him out already! I walked around the neighborhood twice. About 30 minutes the first time. Took a break and relaxed and then another walk for about 45 mins. I was having mild contractions before the walk, but as soon as I got back from the second one, they came like rapid fire. I had Mateo the next day, on his due date!

Yep, sex is supposed to work and walks are probably your best bet. Some people try spicey foods. If you have an exercise ball, you can sit on it and rotate your hips.

I don't know many other ways...my water broke at work before I noticed anything...I thought I was having Braxton-Hick's contractions, haha!

have you tried sex? (I know its probably the last thing you want, lol) The prostaglandin in the semen can ripen the cervix and if you orgasm it stimulates the uterus to contract. Apart from that, long walks to allow gravity to help.
