How can i get my baby to sleep who likes to stretch alot?

My seven week old daughter stretches alot during her sleep. she stretches, grunts, and moves her arms everywhere. Which i believe is causing her to wake herself up. Dr say it's normal. I believe it is...but it seems she cannot sleep for long periods of time because of this. I tried swaddling her, but that only last for a two or three hours till she has to stretch. and if she cannot stretch she gets mad and cries. Is this a phase?? or is there anything i can do to help her? I thought if i feed her more formula then she would sleep longer than 3 hours at a time..i increase her formula from 3.5 oz to 4 ozs..but it seems she still wakes up to every 3 hours.

3 hour stretches of sleep at one time for a 7 week old is pretty good. She may be going through a growth spurt (my kids stretch a lot when they are). Keep swaddling her, and really that is about all you can do. It all sounds normal to me.

2-3 hours of sleep at 7 weeks is perfectly normal, she's not "waking herself" by stretching, but her body is telling her to be awake.

And stretching is also perfectly normal. You're most likely not going to see a longer stretch than 3 hours of sleep for awhile, though. They are usually a little older before they start sleeping longer than that. Even mine, who were good sleepers, still only slept for about 3 hrs at a time at 7 weeks.

You could try using a sleep sack instead of swaddling. They have arm openings, so she'd still be able to stretch while still staying cozy and warm. Also, 3 hour stretches of sleep is pretty normal for 7 weeks.

2-3 hours seems like it is a decent amount for her age. Just keep doing what you're doing and she will sleep longer when she is ready.
