Wait it out! You really should try to hold out til 40 weeks. Most OBGYN's will only let you go a week over your due date. So just for the sake of your little one... hold out as long as you can. In the long run it will be worth it for the babies health.

I have 11 children and was after my due date with at least 9 of them. I tried all of the things they suggest with my 2nd son but nothing seemed to work. I just kept busy. With the repeat pregnancies I would keep my schedule full until my due date and try not to think about how late this baby was and how much I wanted him or her to be here:) My last was born on her due date.

Don't rush it. 36 week is still a little early. The baby will come when it is mature enough!

You want to keep the baby in for the 40 weeks, the baby is still growing and getting stronger. You don't want the baby to come just yet. Enjoy the last 4 weeks, relax, sleep, go out to the shops, see a movie. Just sit back and enjoy. With trying to induce, I tried it all and my son was 10 days overdue. Your baby will come when it's ready. Good luck.

I was in the same boat with my 2nd child. All I did was have sex and tried to lay down but it was an hour or so later and I was in full labor and barely made it to the hospital before he was born.

Having sex is actually a good idea- the prostaglandins they use to induce labor can be found in semen. So it does work. My mom always said to throw in a turkey and invite 20 people over for dinner and you'd go into labor (worked for her!).

Well having sex will definitely help! With my 1st I went into labor about 8 hrs later, I was 2 days to my due date, had a normal 12 hr delivery - was perfect! I also highly recommend walking.... this just gets your body going, then when you do start labor, continue moving around or taking a relaxing walk it really helps get it going. I have heard horrible things about the Castor Oil theory as posted below, do not do it - can be really painful. Whatever you do don't let them pressure you into inducing, you will be miserable. That baby will not stay in there forever, and if you are already dilating then it can't be more than a week or 2 at most, good luck!!!!

I've tried everything. I cleaned my house, my mom's house, even my aunt's house...nothing. I couldn't have sex..doc instructions. I walked, someone suggested eating pepe's and I did that, and ate certain foods. Nothing helped. We originally thought I was going to be early because I was dilated the beginning of Nov. was expected to give birth the 29th. So I stayed dilated 1cm for the longest. I was in so much pain and discomfort because she was down so low and ready to come out but my cervix wasn't ready!! So finally she induced me on the 24th at 3pm and at 8:55pm I had her!! So...the only was inducing labor worked for me was my dr. doing it for me. :)

As everyone keeps saying, Sex. I'm thirty eight weeks and two and a half centimeters dilated and the doctor told me today, sex. Its not actually the sex that stimulates the labor, its the orgasm because it makes your uteran muscles contract.

I went to my doctors visit and my doctor told me I was 3 to 4 cm. So I asked my doctor what to do and he told me to have sex and my daughter would come. He was so right because it happen at 1am and she came at 4:57am. So just give it a try.

The baby will come when its ready, i know that last 4 weeks are the longest, but believe me they are there for a reason...a baby is supposed to be in there for 40 weeks...they put on the essential fat and mature their lungs ready for the outside world. Some babies born at 36 weeks develop breathing problems as they dont have enough surfactant to keep their lung working properly...just be patient!!

Walking can help. Sex with BF/Hubby is good to b/c there is a chemical in the semen that the cervic reacts to to induce labor. GOOD LUCK!

Yep sex seemed to do it for my last! I was three days overdue and had been dialated to a 4 for a week and a half. I thought it would never happen, but we fooled around and about two or three hours later I was having contractions. Also lots of walking if you are able! Good luck and hope everything goes well

With all three of my little ones, I got up to 4 centimeters, and still did not go into active labor. I tried walking, having sex, caster oil (not recommended) and nipple stimulation and they would all bring on contractions some pretty good contractions, but I would have to continue doing them in order for the contractions to keep coming. I came to a conclusion that, your baby is going to come, when they are ready, or the doctor will induce you. For your sake, I hope your little one will come on her own, I opted out for pain relief and they were all induced. I had very fast, very painful contractionswith all three. Good luck!.

For me what helped was not sex - my husband objected to it as I was suppesedly using him and he was afraid our second will be too soon at home - I wiped the whole floor at my house on my knees. Swinging movements in the evening, labour finished 8 am.

Don't. The baby will come when s/he is ready. Pregnancy lasts approx. 40 weeks for a reason. They need the last few weeks to develop their lungs and cook a little more. Be patient!

Well I'm a cosmetologist. I work at a great clips doing only hair, but in school they make you do hair, skin and nails (cosmetology). So you do a little of massage and that kinda thing relating to skin. In one of my classes they had said that there is a certain spot kinda below/behind your ankles that if the woman gettin the massage is pregnant your not spose to rub. They say it can induce labor. Now i was pregnant while in school, so on the day of my due date i had the girls rub my ankles like nobody's buisness. i dunno for sure if thats what did it but i had my son at 7:51 the next morning. And when they broke my water, some of the water hadn't fully drained so a good chunk of the in between time was waitin for me to dilate before i could push ( but not being fully drained, i wasnt gonna dilate anyway). And i only pushed for about 30-40 minutes, think my son was beyond ready from not being able to come out sooner. But anyways if that doesnt work for you, these women are right take a loooooooong walk and bang it out tonite haha! good luck

Try reverse psychology.....my girl was a week overdue. I tried sex, spicy food, walking, swimming, you name it. So one night I looked at my husband and said "I got it" If she is anything like you she will do the opposite of what I ask. I told her to please stay in for just a little longer. I woke up early that morning with contractions and she was born later that day:)

I was 2 cm dialated and 60-70 % effaced. Dr. said my cervix was really softened at 35 weeks. He came 5 days early. So don't get your hope up too high. There are ways to induce labor. I didn't try any because i wanted him to come on his own. There are pressure points on your body you can try. There's this raspberry leaf tea I heard works you have to get it at a health food store like Whole Foods probably has it. Sex helps. The prostagladins in the male's sperm helps to thin the cervix. If you look up naturally inducing labor you should be able to see a list of ways. Not sure if they really work cause I haven't tried.

I just kept moving around a lot, a lot of walking, cleaning house and light exercise. The movement really got him excited and ready to come out. They say that sex helps too, I know it worked for me. Oh and dont use a condom either, there is something in the sperm that is supposed to help speed up the process. After only 4 or 5 hours of that I went into heavy labor. I hope this helps...

For my 1st pregnancy ,I did alot of walking particularly in my last month, my son came 2&1/2 weeks early .

Thanks again for all the adice!! I have been taking daily walks but as for all the other suggestions I am going to wait till closer to my du date to try those!!Thanks

[deleted account]

Getting your feet rubbed can induce labor...specifically your heel and back of your ankle. It is a reflexology technique.

[deleted account]

Lots of walking...I was four days over my due date with my son and I was desperate. I went for a long walk three times a day. Everytime I walked my contractions would start. Then I would stretch when I got home, especially my legs and hips. Squats are the best stretch you can do to prepare for labor. This was my first pregnancy and it really helped during labor.

All good advice, but the baby will come with the baby wants to come. I tried some of the above with my 1st who was 2.5 weeks late. Nothing worked except the doctor doing it. have 4 kids I will tell you the late babies are stronger. So be patient and it is all worth the wait. Good luck!

You cannot induce labour! It is very unsafe for the baby, If she/he hasn come out yet it means they are not ready! Although when I was 39 weeks pregnant I read drinking Pineapple juice helped thin the walls out? I drank tat for 2 days and I went into labour 1 day before my due date! Also sitting on an exercise ball helps also!!! Good luck and Congratulations :)

sex is the most natural way to increase your chances of inducing pregnancy. The chemicals giving off from sex are progesturm( i know I spelled that wrong), that is the same chemical they use to induce your labor if need be.

I was dialated 2 cm for over a month! I finally went into labor after taking my older daughter on a LONG walk at a local zoo. It was a lot of uphill, downhill. But honestly, I'd wait. Some of my favorite memories are of my mother and husband timing contractions, getting all excited, and falling asleep, because it was false labor! Seemed like we did that every evening! It was pretty entertaining to watch them watch me like a ticking bomb! I suppose you could ask your OB to induce. My OB was being deployed to Iraq, and let me choose one of my girls birthdates.

I've heard that sex and walking may induce labor. For me, my daughter just decided she was ready to face the world - I didn't even know I was in labor until about 2 hours before my daughter was born...

don't do it. Your baby will let you know when it's time. But, if it is a medical issue, let your doc induce you. But, know that the PIT is painful (usually back labor). Let the timing take its course. Your baby will know when to come out better than you, believe it or not. Stay healthy and focused on the precious gift you are about to receive ;o)
