We did not know what we were having. We hoped for a girl but were blessed with a wonderful little boy that I would not trade for 100 girls. We had talked about names before had (obviously) and came to a quick decision on a girls name. But when it came to a boys name, we could not see eye to eye. We finally decided that we would cross that bridge if it came to that.

The morning after our son was born, the lady came around with all the paper work. She told us that we had an hour before she came back for the papers. SHOCK!! Find a name FAST! We talked about it and looked at our new bundle. My husband finally suggested Noah Alexander. Once I said the name while looking at my son I knew it was his name.

We chose Noah because he was the first sailor and my husband is former Navy. And Alexander because it is a big name that can be shortened if he wanted too.

Our late first born's first name and middle names are Tiago Frederick Lloyd.

Ti-are-go is a Portugese names a derivative of the name James. He was named after one of our fave Formula One racing driver, Tiago Monteiro. Frederick is my hubby's late father's name, and Lloyd is my dad's middle name and Tiago should've been born on dad's birthday back in 2007. Most the men on my dad's side has the middle name is Lloyd, and dad was over joyed that we chose to follow on that tradition; plus that we'd named our son after him as a birthday present.

Our little man at the moment is nearly 11 weeks old and his name is Aaron Wesley. I've been with my hubby 18 year this year and we chose Aaron's name 15 years ago. We said when we were dating that the name would be for out first son's name as we'd just been and seen Judge Dread at the movies and thought it was a really cool movie. So we chose Aaron as it was the name of one of the crew, that we'd seen come up in the credits. Wesley we chose as Wesley Snipes played a fab role in the movie, and we both agreed that he's really cool guy, so that's how we came up with name.

Aaron means High Mountain, plus in Bible he was Moses' brother and a High Priest.

Wesley means West Meadow, which is fitting as hubby and I love the outdoors and we hope Aaron will to..

this is quite sad ....as I always loved the name Roxanne from the police song, and then I heard the name Roxie years in chicago (our daughter is Roxanne Rose but we call her Roxie), but the clincher was Roxanne is a persian name and it means Dawn and Dawn is my middle name !!, so then it's Roxanne Rose and Rose is my mother middle name.

how about you ?

p.s you posted that on my birthday ha ha !

I have always liked the nam Malicki- Ki for short. My babys daddy wanted no part of that and I didnt want to change my mind so that was the name we went to hospital with. When our son was born it wasnt until day 3 that we finally agreed on EYAN ADAM. EYAN is spelt different as I do not like traditional spellin. The middle name is after a man I loved in Highschool and he died in a car accident my senior year. So for our second son I was so upset that he was a boy and did not want to pick boy names so i picked girl names instead. Then about a month before he was born I was put on bed rest and decided to find a boy name. IZACK JON- it flowed smooth with other boys and fit the vowel sequence middle name is after my nephew who passed 2 months before I became prego. .

We picked my eldest"s name from a book.  I came from an era where if the teacher said Sharon 6 people put their hands up so I wanted something distinctive.  We chose Mackenzie for a girl all the way through and just couldn't find any other name we liked so was mightily relieved when I had a girl.  It took aged for my dad to get used to it but couldn't imagine her as anything else now.  When my youngest came along it was a case of picking something that seemed to go with Mackenzie.  I had Evie Rose to start with but it just was too girly and boy was I right if you could see her now girly Evie she is not.  We ended up with Kennedy Eve.  Both surnames but adopted in the US as first names.  Whatever you end up picking they grow to fit the name and you can never imagine them any other way.

I am currently expecting a girl, and we chose her name to be Athaliah Shay. First of all, when I got pregnant, my boyfriend and I agreed that if we had a boy, our son would carry his father's name. My boyfriend is a Jr., so if we were to have a little boy, it would be the 3rd. As for a girl, I knew I wanted to incorporate the name Shay in somehow, because my best friend's twin sister passed away on my 16th birthday, and she was the most amazing person I've ever met in my life, and I can only hope my daughter possesses some of those qualities. The first name, Athaliah, however, is a little strange, I'll admit, but I was thinking about names and influences on names, and I kept getting the name Athena stuck in my head. I knew Athena wasn't the name I wanted, so I played around with it and somehow came up with Athaliah. Another big factor was that my sisters and I all had 21 letters in our names at birth, my dad worked it out that way, so I wanted to do the same with my children. Since our boy's name is already decided, all my children will have 19 letters in their names... Kinda crazy, but that's how we did it.

We named our Daughter Ferris...Ferris Brunner. Get it? It started out as a joke many years ago when suggested by a friend. When I got pregnant we used it as the nickname for baby. It stuck and we began to really like the name. Her middle name is Elyn. My middle name is Ellen and I was named after my Grammy. So she is named after both of us but we decided to change the spelling.

My husband and I actually picked out names before we even married or thinking about kids. It was just a random conversation about what we would want to name our kids if we ever had them. I really like the name Kaden for a boy but it was hard finding a middle name. My husband is a huge Dean Koontz fan and we both really love the Odd Thomas series that he writes. We both really liked the name Odd so finally after a lot of discussing we decided on Kaden Odd for a boy. Also if or when we have a girl we decided on the name Rowenn Jade. I can't really remember how we came upon Rowenn. I really really love my niece's name Ryann...so I think it was something that sounded similar but wasn't the same.

Also, we have thought about trying to give all our kids middle names that are adjectives.

Quoting Catherine:

My first daughter is Phillippa, Pippa for short and my second daughter is Madeline, her friends call her Maddie. Nice and we like them. I'm a teacher so boys names were tricky. It's interesting how many 'different' names end up in the same class. I once taught a class that had 7 boys beginning with 'J'. Find a name you like and feel good about and think you always will.

Madelyn was my choice if we had a girl! so cute I love Maddie for short. You are right about looking at trends, you don't want your child to be one of several with the same name.

we chose names with meaning to  us and unique but not too odd. Mason is named for his grandfather who is a brick layer. Our second is named Cole, mostly because I liked it. Colin would have been my first choice but it didn't flow with our last name. While I was pregnant with him we found out that the name of the creek on our property was called Cole's creek, thats when I knew it was meant to be Cole.

their middle names both begin with the letter A, my husband and I both have middle names starting with A, we really like their names Mason Alexzander and Cole Addison

My Daughter's name is Charlotte Jayne Moira. I chose the name Charlotte as a "professional" name for her nick-name, which is Charlie. I picked the name "Charlie" for my daughter when I was 3!! My mom loves telling that story. I decided on "Jane" because it's a family name and it sounds so cute with Charlie - Charlie Jane! But I didn't like how plain it was so I decided to spice it up by adding the y to make it "Jayne". Moira actually came for 3 reasons. My mom's name is Wendy after Wendy from the play "Peter Pan". Peter Pan is my favorite play/movie/book/idea of all time ever, so, as a namesake to my mom, and an ode to the movie, I chose the name "Moira" which was Wendy's middle name - Wendy Moira Angela Darling. Of course I couldn't name her Tigerlily or Tinkerbell so I decieded on Moira, which is an Irish name, which is also our heritage.

Okay the best advice i ever got was from my aunt..

name the kids with a name that goes with "Damn It"

at first I was like now way I will never say damn it to my kids! she just smiled..

Corbin Eugene and Kira Rae and my wonderful little angles. I love them More than I love air.. However, they are kids and they just make you say (under your breath and never to them) "Damn it!"

so it is some fun advice other than that..

My son's name Corbin mean "Raven" and honestly cam from the movie The Fith Element" Eugene was a family name

My baby girls name came from a News reporter on the internet, she was a cutie, Kira means "Temple of God". Rae just sounded good

happy name hunting, it is a part time job ;)

We had an easy time deciding on names. I had always wanted Sarah Elisabeth if I had a daughter, Sarah for my grandmother and Elisabeth just because I liked it. Well, we got to looking at my husband's sibling's children's names and realized that nobody had given my MIL a namesake so we decided on the name Sarah Joan instead if we had a girl. For a son his middle name would be Leonard because that is my husband's middle name and also his father's middle name. We wanted to keep the same flow of the name, FIL--Vaughn Leonard, husband--John Leonard. So it had to be one syllable with an "on" type ending. We decided on Sean Leonard for three reasons. First because it rhymes with Vaughn and John. Second because John and Sean are the same name without being Junior. Third because Sean Connery is our favorite James Bond.

My parents names were out because they hated them and I never heard them do anything but gripe about them and I wasn't about to put up with the grief we would have gotten for giving either one of them a namesake. :(

We have Sean Leonard and he is 9 years old now.

After a disagreement about the name of my first child, I decided NEVER to name after family.... Basically my system is: I pick out a list of names I like, hubby suggests some, and we narrow it down from there...We both cross off ones that we totally couldn't live with, and keep crossing off till we find one that we both feel is right. I tend to go with old fashioned names. So far I have:

Elizabeth Anne (Ellie-15)

Alexandra Nicole (Alex-11)

Thomas Anthony (Tommy-6) (lovingly know by me as "Bug" short for Cuddlebug)

And Baby on the way (finding out the sex in 2 weeks)

Annabelle Claire or

Adam James

Good luck in your decision making....Once you pick one and start calling the child by that name, you'll wonder how you could have picked anything else, because it is just soooo right!!

My husband and I had a hard time deciding. Opinions of others kept us arguing over names. We resolved it by deciding to each make a list of favorite names (no matter how long/short), then we looked each other's list over and circled the names that we really liked (on the other persons list. We narrowed it down to 4 names from there, and decided in the last days weeks and minutes. Also, we made a pact to not tell anyone the names until after she was born. Here were the secret names and the result:

Norah Ann

Abigail Ann

Caroline Reese/Ann

Jocelyn Reese (This is my daughter's name)

My LOs name is Elisabeth Quinn-Maxine..(We call her Ellie) I love the name Ellie, but dont like the name Elonore.. So I thought we can call Elisabeth, Ellie too.. I spelled Elisabeth with an S rather then a Z because I do not like the name Liz! So hopefully with the S, that will stear people away from calling her Liz.. Quinn was the name that her daddy was going to be named when they though he was going to be a girl.. lol Maxine was my great grandma's middle name. Ellie's daddy also has two middle names so it worked out..

And my daughter's name is Ember Ann. I wanted to name her after my grandmothers, Esther and Edith, and it also happened to fit my Tia Elisa (my great-great-aunt) and my cousin's grandmother, Evelyn, whom I was close to. I wanted something unique but not too different. So, Ember. Ann is in honor of my husband's sister. She was born 9 years before him with hydrocephalus and died at 18 months old. He never met her, but they share a birthday. He always wanted to name a daughter after her. So, Ember Ann. I think we're stopping at one, but if we had a boy, I would have used an "S" name, probably Seth or Sean, in honor of my grandfathers, Sol and Santiago.

We gave her the middle name Bianca in case she hated her first name. Michelle,  I have to tell you that I am a fan of both Jadzia and Kaylee - love both those series.  And I love that you named your daughters after those strong women.  I also want to tell you that I had a pet ball python (snake) and I named it Dax, because the markings along his side looked like alien heads and he made me think of the Dax symbiote.  Great pet (though certainly not the same as a daughter!)

We spent ages discussing names, but finally decided on a boy's name from the Welsh translation of Solomon from Zadok the Priest which I sang at University and his dad actually likes. When Selyf (pronounced Celiv in English) was on his way and I was walking around the hospital having contractions, we saw some artwork by children from a local school, and one of the boys who took part was also called Selyf. That nailed it for us, His second name, Illtud, took longer to agree upon! I'm a teacher, and wanted a different but not stupid or made up name that wouldn't be too long for him when he gets to school!

His middle name is after my dad's 1st name translated to english. Took some convincing on my husbands part but he grew to love it. It means 'hunter'.
my daughter for some reason I have always loved Alexa. I think it had something to do with the song by billy joel (I'm a huge fan) "downeaster Alexa". The meaning of it is defender or protector of man. Her middle name is Thalia. It means to bloom.

When I found out i was pregnant, if i had a girl i wanted to name her after my mother who had passed away in 2003 when i was 17. my ex was ok with that, his mom not so much. After i left him he didn't give any input on names so my adoptive mother and i took charge. After I found our I was having a girl, I was extatic. She even brought up the fact that she should be named after my mom. So Cheryl would be the middle name, that was easy. The first name took quite awhile to choose. One night i was looking online at names and their meanings and my mom was looking in a mini baby name book. all of a sudden while flipping through the book it stopped on a page and one name stuck out among the rest. Zita which means The little rose. So Zita Cheryl.

We didn't name after family (except with one middle name) nor did we look up name meanings to pick the name.  With the first you're just learning so we had a boys named picked out and were still undecided on a girl, luckily we had a boy. But the name we picked, Tyler, wasn't a common name, until around the time he was born so with my other 2, I decided we were going with different..but not off the wall names.  We picked 2 names that we liked and when our 2nd son, Kenyon, was born, I called the name to the baby and decided which fit him best (you just know which fits best) then with our last, a daughter, Keliah, it was awful. This time we found out what we were having and couldn't agree on a girls name but we knew we wanted a J or K start. So the week I was due (the librarian even commented on it being a little late to be checking the books out) I checked out some books and wrote down all the J &K names I liked. She was born and everyone kept asking the name so finally that afternoon we went through the list and picked her name. The awful part was, my husband told his family the wrong name and twice I told a nurse the wrong name! I would strongly suggest picking 2-3 favorites and seeing which fits the baby once you can put "a face with the name".

So, when we were at our birthing class, there was a video that they played and the doctor presented the mother with her new baby, Aleah. My husband and I looked at each other and loved it. We didn't make a definite decision until the morning she was born. We felt the name fit perfectly. Her middle name is after her grandma, and we changed the spelling of the first name to look prettier. Aleya Mae Lacy :)

I bought it and took it home to my husband and told him this was definitely the name. It was not his first choice but it grew on him. His parents suggested Verity for V, and as it means truth I love it because honesty is very important to me. I was going for Frances for F because it was my grandparents' surname but I had a few scares during my pregnancy which was a miracle as I'd been told 15 years earlier I'd never concieve. Everyone kept telling me to have faith because this baby was meant to be, so the F became Faith. The A was the hardest, we finally decided on Amber. When I was pregnant with our 2nd, I found out the gender, but my hubby didn't want to know. We picked a boy & girl name. I let him have his way with the boy name (Matthew) because I knew it was a girl. Although I do like that name for a boy. I had to fight harder for the girl name I wanted.
