What is the easiest way to teach your baby to wave? Is it up and down or side to side or open and closing their hand? Can they learn all those ways?

open and close your hand! we found this the best and easiest way so she doesnt get confused. she nows waves when she hears someone say bye bye or cya.

i would open and close my hand... but my son still ended up waving with a full arm and hand motion... my step daughter's (who is 21 months) wave has evolved over months... it's changed from the full arm wave to a hand squeeze and now a finger wave...so i dont think the way you teach him is necessarily the way he will interprete it...

my son waves all the time now and says bye while doing it LOL all the way thru the shopping centre to randoms. He started off doing a fairy looking wave LOL he was just closing the tops of his fingers waving, now he uses his hand up and down. I think its what they feel comfortable doing.

They all do it differently. Some of mine did the open/close hand wave, and some waved their hand side to side. There is no preferred way. In fact one of my twins does the open/close way while the other waves his hand side to side. They have used their preferred way since they began waving.
