He'll pee all day in the potty but not poop. I think he may be afraid of falling in. I've offered incentives, but that doesn't seem to make a difference.

Erin, I have 3 children, all of them by the first of age did the toilet training. Actually It was when they were at nine months. Every morning when they just woke up, I took them to bathroom and put them on my toilet. I talked to them, laughrd with them and said to them;" your a good boy/girl come on pee or poop. For peeing I repeat every 15 minutes to put them on my toilet and the interval got longer from 15 to 30 to 1 hour and then they said whenever they want to pee or poop. When my first daughter were 1,5 year, she stops using diapers even at night. And my other 2 children stop at 2 years old. I think it's not to late to do the toilet training to your son. I hoe this help you some

Hi have a 4 year old son, too. He's been potty trained for about a year now. What I did was I had him wear underwear all day and put a pullup on him at night, he had tons of accidents for a couple of weekends, but then he got the hint. Also, he didn't want to poop in the potty either, so I made him a potty chart and when he pooped in the potty (peeing didn't count) he'd get a sticker...after 5 stickers he got a little airplane (they're the size of matchbox cars). To this day, when he "finds" one of his airplanes, he says "I got this airplane from pooping in the potty". Hope this helps! Good luck!

I have twin 3 yr old boys. We have been trying to potty train. One of my sons really wants to go but holds until he gets uncomfortable. He starts to get himself so wokred up he can't go. Any suggestions on how to help him relax. I really feel once we get them to actually GO on the potty they will get it pretty quick

When my son indicated that he was ready to potty train, I scheduled him on the potty every hour and half or so and then put on underwear. I never went back to diapers. He also didn't like pooping in the potty but after a couple of accidents in his underwear, he got the picture and went on the potty. We also had a potty chart....everytime he peed and pooped he got a sticker...after 10 stickers he got a new toy or treat...It worked great!

Hi,
I had the same problem, my son was peepee trained at 2 and would not poop on the potty. The doctor told me that he is traumitized by something when he was a baby, (like a hard bowel movement). So she said to try Miralax, I was very afraid to give my 3 year old a laxative. So I waited and through alot of accidents and ruined underwear ( I refused to put a diaper back on) I Gave in and did the Miralax. It makes their stool to soft from them to hold it in. Right after they drink in their juice it takes a little bit, right away put him on the potty, it will just fall out and he will then see its OK to go on the potty. It took me only 2 weeks on the Miralax and my son was fully trained. ( MY doctor said it would take 6 months).I had to get the fear out of him. I hope this helps.

Have you heard of the book "everybody poops" ? It is on amazon. When my son was going through this stage he was pretty much just weirded out by the whole pooping thing and when we read this book a couple of times and then he got more comfortable with the whole idea he went poopy in the potty. It will happen. Patience and Prayer. Hope this helps. Allison

Wal-Mart used to carry a potty book, one for boys and one for girls. I have skimmed through them and they looked pretty good. I think it is called The Big Boy's Potty Book. I hope that you can get this worked out! I know it has to be frustrating!

Hi there is alot of ways to go about this. Some children are reslease and don't want to sit that long. One thing you can do is give him a book to look at. I know it sounds silly but it works for some children. You can also get a potty set that is comfortalbe to him and see if he like it. They also have ones that go on the toilet to make him fill like a big boy. Dose daddy help? My son whatch his daddy and wanted to do what he did. I hope this help you some.

Erin, I am having the same trouble with my daughter who is just about to turn 3..she has not problem peeing but will not even try to poop...however she also gets upset when she has accidents..so my plans are to pick a weekend coming up soon, where I know that we will not be going far, and keep her in underwear no matter how many accidents or how much wash I end up doing...I'm hoping after a full 48 hours of big girl panties that she will be more inclined to stay clean...and the point to me telling you all this is that my son was 3.5 and I did this and he was good to go by the following Monday.
