How do I get my child to sleep past 7 am!

7 am is awesome. I worked in Childcare for 6 years and I know about five families who got to sleep in that late. If your putting her down at 8 she should not be sleeping much longer then that anyway.

yeah, I have to agree that 7 am is not bad at all. I was a definate night person pre-baby, but kids are supposed to get up in the morning. IMO I think trying to get them to sleep past 7 is honestly ridiculous and selfish. It's your job to get up with them in the morning. Suck it up & drink some coffee, no one ever said every part of having kids was fun!

Thats pretty good if you can get her to sleep till then...mine wakes up the same but instead of 6 she wakes at 5.30am for a feed...even if i keep her up later she still wakes at the same time...i don't mind waking up at that time though...as long as i get my 8 hours sleep im sweet. :-) sorry i couldn't be more helpful...

I was thinking that 7am is good too :) Especially if she goes to bed at 8pm and then wakes at 7. Very good!

LOL! I am so trying not to snort water out my nose as I read this! Honey... 7AM is great! Try 5am on! Plus this means she is already in the swing of things for when school starts... don't ruin it... you will hate it all later if you try to get her in the habit of sleeping later... so now you have a few years to catch up to a 7 AM wake up call & be on the ball for school days too!

my 14 month old usually gets up at 6.30 but since hes started to cut his nap out he gets up between 7-7.30

Wow im sorry but 7am is a sleep in for me!
Everyone has their own body clock and if she is eating, going down well and sleeping trough well, count yourself lucky your not up at 4.30 every morning! My son is 3 years old and thats what time he wakes up every single day. Some people are morning people.

7 may be as good as it gets. Aiden usually wakes at around 7:45-8:15, & I hear him on the baby monitor. (We need it because there is a closet & thick walls between his room & ours.) He usually sits & talks to himself or his teddy bear for about 20-30 min while I get fully awake. There has been a few times when he wakes at 6, and then takes 2 naps that day, and a few times when he wakes at 10 and takes no naps that day. All in all, I think I'm pretty lucky, especially since he just gave up his 2nd daily nap, at 16 1/2 months old. Just count your blessings, & be glad sleeps thru the night, and doesn't wake any earlier!

Hate to say it Honey but just get used to it :) My youngest son is now 8 and a half, It doesnt matter if he goes to bed at 8pm or midnight, like clockwork he is up at the crack of dawn, its only been the last two weeks he has for some reason decided to sleep in till 7am, hope you dont have to wait 8 years for an extra hour, I say just go with it, thats her body clock. 7 would be nice. I've gotten to sleep in that late a handful of times in the past 2 years......

Of course, in the summer our sun is up before 6 and close to 7 in the 'winter'......

7am would be heaven!!!!! I would be jumping for joy if my kids slept until 7. My 5 year old now sleeps until almost 7 (it's only taken 5 years 9 months!) and I'd give anything for my 19 month old to sleep until 6am! Recognise when you've got it good!

I agree with Elizabeth Toth. my daughter wakes up at about 7:30 or so. and i leave her in the crib, she soon falls back to sleep and wakes up again at 9. pretty good i guess. and even if your daughter doesnt go back to sleep, she may just stay quiet long enough for you to get a few min extra of rest.

I agree Joanna. I hate getting up so early in the winter when it is still dark.......if I didn't have to, I stay snuggled in, LOL :)

I don't know about anyone else but something about getting up before the sun just isn't for me so just getting her to sleep til about 7:30 would be good. but thanks Susan for the tip. I think maybe I'll try that for tomorrow morning! :) I'll let you know how it works.

Get used to it. I still have to be up at 7am to get kids off to school :) I wouldn't be too concerned if I were you. In another 12 years, you'll be complaining because you can't get her OUT of bed in the mornings!! Adjust your own bedtime instead. That way, you get enough sleep too.

Put some toys and books within her reach so she has something to do when she wakes up that early. Then slowly start getting her later by 15 minute increments. The first week 7:15, the second 7:30, etc...until she is used to being awake and entertaining herself for an hour. My kids enjoy their alone time in their own rooms if they get up early, but for the most part they don't get up until 8am because that was my rule. Enough sleep is so important to you and for your kids.

make them stay awake a little longer in the evening. that helped for a while w/ mine.

You could always try leaving her in her crib. She may not be asleep, but she is in her room. I did that and my son finally just started sleeping until 8 maybe 8:30. Do a routine even in the morning and eventually she will just sleep until 8.

Good luck...my daughter has been getting up at 7 or earlier forever...well it seems like forever...I haven't found anything that works...now that I am pregnant again I am desperate to sleep in as I sleep horribly for most of the night...I recently switched my daughter to a big girl bed (she's 21 mos, but only 18 adj for prematurity) and now she gets up and plays in her room for a few minutes before she wants breakfast...today I got to stay in bed until 7:15! That 15 minutes makes a huge difference!

body clock is set honey lol.. 7 is pretty good i think at least its not 5!! my boys sleep from 7 - 7 every night.. doesnt get much better than that!! i tried the putting them down later, doesnt work.. i'm hoping that when theyre a little older they clock will change, thats what i've heard anyways..they sleep in the same room, i hear them at 7ish.. i dont get them until 745 ish b/c theyre playing and whatnot..like i said the older they get hopefully it will be a later schedule
