I agree with Amy.  My girl is a great sleeper because my best friend and a dozen other mothers suggested I use the techniques in "Babywise".

Hi Lee, my daughter is 15 mths and is going thru a similar spell at the moment. Ifound that she was almost expecting to have a bottle every time she woke up in the night, so i decided to cut down on milk in the night and replace it with water. Slowly she began to wake up less and sleep for longer. Also, a bedtime routine does help.

well, i have a 8 month old and she is sleeping right through already from about 4 months.  I normally bath her at about 7pm - 7:30pm and then i give her last bottle at about 8pm.  she normally falls asleep just before 9pm and which means me and my husband can relax together.  She normally then wakes up at 6am in the mornings with me and my husband.  I have no secret, but that is what i did from that time and i keep to that routine for her.  good luck

Lee, I understand what you're going thru. I've had similar problems with my 17 month old. She has slept thru the night a handful of times since birth. Now, she usually just wakes up once each night and I can live with that since a few months ago I was dealing with what you are dealing with currently.



My mother, a mother of six, says that eventually, I will have to just let her cry herself back to sleep to have her sleep completely thru, but she's a tough one and I think she could cry for an hour or more if I leave her to do so. Plus, her little cry is so heart breaking. I can hear her saying "Mommy" in between cries and I just have to get her. I usually rock her back to sleep. If she wakes up when I lay her back down I tell her, "lay down; it's night night time," and she will lay there clinging to a little stuffed lamb she has. It helps if they have something to comfort them, a blanket, stuffed animal or their dummy.



Since your daughter is still waking up soo many times I would suggest sending your husband/partner in there a couple of times. Also, the two of you need to NOT pick her up each time. Rub her back and give her her dummy and some comforting words then walk out.



I've noticed that if my daughter doesn't get a proper nap during the day, she is more restless and wakes up more frequently than if she has a good long nap during the day. So, we make sure she gets a good nap everyday.



Finally, I have had to limit her sugar in-take, especially in the evening. No fruit juice with dinner, just milk or water! Good luck!

Goodness me.. both my children slept thru the night from 6 weeks old..  you should really be ignoring her at that age. She is far too big to be waking up in the night. It will take a few days prob 3 or 4, but gradually if she sees you don't come she won't wake up anymore.. It's you that needs to have the patience to be able to ignore her.

Also no midday naps.

I've always heard that giving a bath their bath at night and creating a nightly routine works well, and it has for us also. My six month old gets his bath about 7:30pm and his last feeding at 8pm. he last about 30-45 min more and then the yawning and eye rubbing begins. when we put him down, we do have a small night light and music for that plays through the night. I do think the music helps because I've heard him stir a bit, but he goes right back to sleep on his own. and we just leave the radio on, no fancy special CD, just a classic rock station and it sees to do the trick. hope this helps!

Hi Lee, to be honest your not the first mom I spoke to that's still having this problem. My best friend is having the same issue except her daughter is 2 1/2. Her problem is that she takes very late and long naps. My daughter  stop waking up at four months old. My pediatrician gave me the green light at 3 months and told me to just let her cry it out and allow her to sooth herself to sleep. It only took about a week but eventually she realized that daddy and mommy weren't going to be feeding her in the middle of the night. I hope this helps somewhat! About my best friend she experimented a couple of times and let her daughter go through without a nap and he daughter went to sleep with out weaking up once.

l believe in tuff love!!! leave her in her cot, go in every 5 to 10 min's and scream, GO TO SLEEP!!!!  or just dont go in!!!! she will learn that its time to go to sleep! we all did!!! have a wine or 3 and it will be easy. hope that heaps, worked for me. cheers W

Try reading and following advice from a book called "Babywise". Everyone I have talked to about this book has used it and it has worked. I have just started reading it and trying to use it as I go. So far my 6 month old is mostly sleeping through. She may wake up once here and there. I cant wait to finish it.

Thats a tough one. My son used to wake up for his dummy all night. I wanted to surgically attach it to his gob at times!! In the end our health visitor said he was not able to fall asleep without the comfort of his dummy. Good explaination, but not cure. I think the only way to beat these things is to go cold turkey. Leave her to cry. I know it's exhausting and horrible for everyone but it will only be for a week at most before she realises that you really, REALLY, aren't coming. After the habit is broken and she realises that she can go to sleep without needing that comfort your'e plain sailing. Any other way seems a very long and drawn out zombified existance of tiredness for you for however long this lasts. Sorry if you think it's unrealistic but it worked after about 4 - 5 nights for us.

Is she taking long naps during the day?

When i try to teach something new to my baby I take three days with the same method so she could remember.

My daughter is 2 1/2. She still wakes up a couple of times every night. I just hold her and comfort her. She goes back to sleep. I never leave her alone when she cries. I don't want her to be afraid and lonely. She needs comfort and reassurance.

With our son what I had to do was lay him down and then I would rub his head for awhile.  Then slowly I would place a chair further and further away from the crib.  When he woke up I would just say "shhhhh go back to sleep" and in a few minutes he would.  I made sure I never turned on a light in the room but did have a soft litle nightlight in the room. 

Another thing which he still uses today when he can't fall asleep is a sound machine.  I have a small one that plays nature sounds.  It is sort of like hearing white noise.  He is now 13 and like I said, he still uses it - thank goodness for rechargeable batteries.
