Hum! Make saying the /m/ sound a game. Use it to make your own 'piglet latin'. Play with the words and sounds. This is what many of the Dr. Seuss books are best at. If your child is not saying any /p, b, m/ sounds by age three, call your local school or hospital and ask for a speech referral.

Dadda is just an easier sound for babies to form which is why it normally always come first over mamma it will come and trust me you will regret the day you wished he could say it :D enjoy the peace lol Plus if he says dadda means dadda has to get up with him at night because he aint calling for mamma ;P

My son does the same thing. First, it was Dada and now its Cawl for their first name. Everybody has tried to get him to say mama or mommy and he just laughs and say dada-daddy. LOL!

You can also try the "Your Baby Can Read" DVD program. This is the perfect time for him to learn how to read words, learn shapes, colors and numbers. Especially to learn to say Momma. You can always put it on a flash card so that your son can read it and learn the word, Momma. I have the DVD program and it actually does work like they say. My son, Boaz does know how to read words can identify the pictures with the words.

My daughter is the same way. She's almost 13 months and will only say it when she's upset. She always says Dada and just in the last week she's said mama like once without screaming it...so we'll see...I think they just say the one that sounds neater to them.

HA! I had to wait 3 1/2 years to hear "mama". There is a ton of speech therapy tricks to get him to start saying the "m" sound but you probably don't actually need to worry about it. It will come and I can almost promise it will not be 3 years. When he says it it will just be that much more special.

Just keep saying who you are. Momma. But also in the meantime, you just have to give it time. My son did the same thing at that age. I was so disappointed. But eventually overtime he did say, momma. Just be patient with the little one. It will come, I promise you.

ha. my son was really stubborn like that too. Just keep referring to yourself in the third person. Mommy's gonna get you. Mommy's gonna make your lunch, mommy's gonna . . . . whatever. The more he hears it the more likely he will be to say it. I think my son knew it got to me a little and was just being funny, cuz when he did start saying it, he didn't stop lol. Give him some more time :-)))
