I have a 3 1/2 month old and I have tried to start him on cereal this week but he does not seem to be doing very well with a spoon. Advice?

He is too young to eat solids. 6+ months is the rule of thumb.

My girls started cereal at 3.5 months (yes, too early), but my son had absolutely no clue what to do w/ the food til he was 6 months (started trying around 5 months).
He's not ready yet.

3.5 months old is early to be giving cereal. I have not heard of any babies that young who eat with a spoon. This is why the recommended age is 6 months, so that they are more ready to eat with a spoon and they can digest properly.

Ya he isn't ready wait till he is at least 4mo's old. Recommended age is 4-6mo's before starting solids.

Yes, I am pretty sure it was around this time I had to increase my boy's milk intake.. I can't remember real well but by 4 months I think he was drinking about 5 to 6 6oz bottles a day. He was always on the higher end, as he was always hungry! LOL
However, he had breastmilk until 3/3.5 months until I had to stop - I couldn't tell how much breast milk he drank as I did on demand, I did pump for the first 2 months but very little, just enough for Daddy and Sissy to get a feeding in here an there....

Just NOT ready yet. If you think he is still hungry, you can always up the breast feeding times, or the amount of formula he is getting.

WAY to young to be eating from a spoon. Recommended age starts at about 6 months. If your child can sit on his own, and hold his own head up, that is usually the time to start. At the age you are talking about, nutrition should solely be coming from formula or breast milk.

I agree with Krista 100%. He is more than likely not ready, a bit too young yet. ;) I would give him another 6-8 weeks and try again... Like Krista said, 4 months at the very earliest but 6 months is the recommended age. I did start mine at around 4.5 months but not very much and I did not force it. If he didn't seem interested that day, I let it go for a few days...

My advice would be to wait. Really, babies aren't supposed to start solids until they're around 6 months old -- 4 months at the ABSOLUTE earliest. So if he's not doing well with a spoon, it just means that he's not ready for solids yet. Just keep on with the breast milk or formula, and maybe try again in another couple of months.
