How do I stop My 9 year old hiding food, and eating when she shouldnt??

I am obese so im trying to install good habits in my children, i encourage fruit for snacks and limit chocolate,biscuits,and crisps. Unfortunately on several occasions i have found sweet and biscuit wrappers hidden in my daughter's room Ive tried talking to her but it keeps happening. I'm worried she's on a slippery slope to binging what do i do??

My sister has done this her whole life. It's a complaint. Most likely emotional eating.

It's good that your not restricting the food because I agree with louise. Another thing that parents often do is reward children with food (ice cream chocolate ect.) which can be a very bad thing as it can lead to them rewarding themselves with food for the rest of their lives.
Try talking to her and find out why she is doing this. Also try and find out if there is some other problem going on to make sure it's not an emotional eating issue.
If there is no real reason for it then I wouldn't worry to much about it. Encourage an active lifestyle and as healthy eating as you can.

Eating disorders are very complicated. It can be born from family/self/society pressure. It’s a deep mental battle ground. Many will handle this with a cold shoulder without knowing the long and short term effects. Other will over react and try to inflict strict rules which may cause only the child/adult to hide the food.
I suggest you do your research very well, I have seen many young girls and woman straggling with an eating disorder. There are help. Professional people that can identify and assist with a process/method of recovering from this disorder.
She’s so young to have such big emotional strain. Rather act and save her and yourself. Seeing your loving child fall into the pits of anorexia or bulimia is heartbreaking.

Thanks I dont restrict things as such just dont encourage snacking the things are only bought in small quantaties, the main prob is her room is downstairs as we live in a dormer bungalow she knows she 's not allowed food in her room but she is helping herself when we are in bed ie late at night and early in the morning, I dont want to lock food away though

I would go with not buying these things, I'm not saying don't let her have treats but buy only enough for one treat at a time so they just aren't available to her.

I think if you restrict any food then a child is likely to crave it. As long as your child is eatting a healthy diet during the day then there is nothing wrong with your child having a unhealthy snack during the day. Do not shy away from food buy the lower sugar biscuits and lower fat crisps and then allow your child to make their own decision on what they want to eat. If your child is overweight then just don't buy this type of food at all. Most children will not go out to the shops and buy junk food like biscuits and crisps they are more likely to buy candy. If your child is getting pocket money then make them earn it by doing jobs around the house. Just remember that children need more calories and fat than an adult as they burn off calories faster. The best lesson for your children to learn is to see mum eat a healthy diet and have fun exercising whether that is a bike ride or a swim.

I would also bring a new rule into the house that no food is to be taken upstairs and see if this stops the snacking. Good luck!
