I heard a shot of castor oil followed by orange juice would bring it on but I didn't try it....my doctor said that none of the old wives' tale's actually work and it didn't. When he was ready he came....It's hardest at the end, just be patient, rub your belly and talk to the baby as much as possible...enjoy the last days of your pregnacny....

Had my membranes stripped by the OB at 39 weeks but nothing happened, took a long walk on my due date and at midnight that night my water broke. I know everybody's different, but walking did work for me-

castor oil! i was 39 weeks and made a milkshake with castor oil in it. 5-6 hours later i was in labor. it will usually work if you are already slightly dilated. if not, it will just clear out your system.

Hot sex, Hot Curry, Hot Bath! I am a midwife and these are the most common recommendations along with a long walk, but the hot sex is much more fun! Nipple stimulation can also start contractions, but most babies will come when your body is ready for them to come, not when we want them out!

Sex, sex and more sex. Actually, different things work for different people, and if it isn't time, it isn't time. A hot bath...not so hot that it will hurt the baby of course. Walking. There is also some natural herb or something that you are not supposed to take during pregnancy, because it induces labor. But I cannot remember what it is right now. But never take anything without talking to your doctor first!

All you can do is wait.Trust me. During my first pregnancy I begged my doctor to induce me early cause every day seemed like it lasted forever because of all the pressure down there(u know that feeling. like every time the baby moves you swear your uterus is gonna fall out)but she told me to just wait it out and relax. The next day,My mother and I went out to eat and to a movie. I had the worst pains in my side going toward my back but i just figured it was braxton hicks. When we got home, I got a HUGE pain and dropped to my knees.then my water broke! So when you least expect it baby will be ready. You just gotta be patient.

I was 5 days overdue with my youngest and we went out for Chinese food and I went into labor a few hours later. I think its different for each woman and you just have to find what will work for your baby.

Sex... Lots and lots of sex. Your orgasm will give your body the contractions to help start up labor.

taco bell burrito worked for me with both my kids...although I thought that the suggestion of scrubbing the floor on hands and knees was great too...perhaps that combined with one of the other activities mentioned would work...LOL GOOD LUCK and congratulations!

Hi Ronda.

I tried everything under the sun. Hot spicy curry, whole fresh pineapples, sitting on the tumble dryer, long walks and lots of sex, but the little bugger refused to budge. I was eventually induced at 40 weeks +15 days. You pretty much have to be patient and wait for your body to be ready, which is hard when you feel like the goodyear blimp :O) Enjoy the last days of sleep and rest cos its gonna be a while before you can do it again. All of the best xx

With all four of my kids I was definately ready before they were. Unfortunately, nothing I have ever tried has worked. My husband enjoyed the extra sex though! I know how hard it is to be patient when you are so close. Good luck!

A little thing I like to call the walking bounce. LOL It is similar to the wedding march with a skip in the middle or I guess you could call it a slow skip. Worked like a charm for my first child. Good Luck

Do NOT use the castor oil...been there...it will give you horrible cramps, which in turn can feel like contractions...I dont think anything TRULY works, but the doc will tell you to walk a bunch (which is supposed to make labor a little easier) and have sex...Something about the semen has something similar to petosin...Good luck!!

you shouldnt until your 40 weeks, babies are in there for 40 weeks for a reason, thats my opinon and if you were ready to deliver you would already be having contractions.

You don't. Technically, a pregnancy lasts ten lunar months. When the baby is ready, he/she will make an appearance. The more time baby spends inside is better for the development of the lungs and baby's ability to maintain his/her own body temp. Enjoy the pregnancy experience while you can as miserable as you may feel right now. You will think back on it and miss it in the future.

i talked to my mid wife and told her i knew i was ready and my baby was ready. so she stripped my membrane and then i had sex right after that and the next day my daughter came. with my son i got stripped twice and i had sex right before the second time and i went into labor with my son that night. so u can talk to ur midwife or doctor and see if they will strip u. it hurts a little but its worth it.

to be honest people say all these different things work but it just so happens that they went into labor when they did said thing. i'm a firm believer that when babies ready it will appear! and i know its easy for me to say now but enjoy the last couple of weeks of being fussed over because as soon as that babies born its all systems go!

Castor oil...worked for me right away. I was 2 weeks over due and on my last day before I was to be induced, I mixed a small bottle in a glass of OJ, mixed it really well & drank it down with a straw, (it was easier somehow). That was at 11am & I was running to the bathroom at 2pm, (because it definately "cleans you out")...I didn't even realize I had started labour. My son was born before 6pm at home...midwife got there just in time.

This is what has worked for me in the past...Sex and taking a ride in the truck over bumpy country roads and fields! Sounds funny but it worked for 2 out of 3 kids!!! With the third one, my water broke 10 days early and we didn't even get the chance to try anything to get it going!!

Everybody is different and there is no one trick. The body is an amazing machine and there are times when it doesn't respond to any of the tricks that I tell my patients. I am a labor and delivery nurse, and I tell my patients to go to the mall and walk alot, as well as have tons of sex. Unfortunatley your body will still be the one that decides what happens. Since you are 38 weks, you are still early by most docs standards. We do not induce anyone until they have gone to 40 weeks or over.

[deleted account]

Let it come naturally I have been induced 7 times and it is not pleasent . I have tried just about everything, but nothing worked. It is better to let them start slowly as your body is ready. everyone is different and your bub will come in its own time. I have been told though that you should not have any reflexology (foot therapy) as there are certian parts of the foot that shouldnt be stimulated when you are pregnant as it can cause distress to the baby. Im not sure how true this is but I decided it was safer not to test it. Good luck with your bub. All I can say is rest and let everyone spoil you because when the baby comes there wont be much time for pampering yourself because you will be too buzy enjoying your precious bundle.

Quoting Ronda :

How do you bring on labor?

I am 38 weeks and ready to deliver. How do I get the contractions to start/

HI my friend did this with both hers i did it with my 2nd on my 37th week and thats take 1/2 bottle of castor oil its disgusting stuff. Like a laxative bt nt harmful to baby what it does is makes your intestines jig around which then causes baby to start moving away frm intestine wich makes waters break and wellla ur in labour!!

Good Luck..

CASTOR OIL IS THE BEST I did it with my second within 4hrs i was in labour then after water broke i had a real hot bath and hubby poured it on my bump when i gt out off bath i was 8cm dialated b4 getting in bath i was only 2cm... My friend used castor oil a wk b4 all 5 of her kids have been due n it worked for her...EVERYTIME!

I was at 41 weeks when I had to be induced, but I had tried everything as well... Walking, A LOT of walking, about 3 miles a day... I would have contractions, but as soon as I stopped walking, they would become less intense and further apart, and finally go away altogether. We had sex several times a day, I tried to stimulate my nipples, nothing worked... When I was induced and ready to push after an 18 hour labor, the midwife realized that he was facing the wrong way and he eventually had to be vacuum-extracted. I would walk as much as I could if I were you, but make sure you go with someone or have a cell phone on you, just in case! :) Good luck, and trust me, it won't be much longer! :)

Accupuncture will do it! Seek an experienced, liscensed accupuntcurist. If possible find a woman or a accupuntcurist who specializes in women's health. My acupuncturist certainly got my contractions started (but some naughty baby was sitting butt down and refused to cooperate~ so double check baby position first!).

All these suggestions sound wonderfull, but don't get your hopes up too much. The baby will come out when he/she is good and ready. I tried it all and finally delliverd 5 days after my due date.

I know how you feel I was just there! If you are having a normal pregnancy without complications I have heard about using primrose on your cervix to get labor started. You would have to have you hun do it for ya but I hear it works. I was gonna do it myself but my daughter decided to come before I got the chance to buy it. You can get it at your local grocery store. Most ob/gyn don't recomend it but I do know some midwives may allow it. My best advice for you is to wait it out. Your baby will come and trust me. Got whatever sleep you can now.

Hi, my names Toni, i was bang on time with my first child but to make the labour faster it was suggested that i smell Jasmine the flower, or the essential scent if you can get hold of it I believe that helped me to have a labour of 1hr 45mins.or with my two boys the midwife booked my in to be induced and with both the boys I went into labour the mornings I was due to be induced. lol, goodluck I think babies just come when they decide they've had enough of being in there, hope everything goes well for you and good forward to photos of your wee treasure being on here soon.

NO NO NO Castor Oil..I am a third year midwifery student and all I have seen castor oil do is cause major problems. Yeah it will clean you out but it takes away nutrients and can cause the runs for days and even weeks. You baby will come when it is ready. Sex, rasberry leaf tea, capsules as well that you can insert. Walk up and down street with one foot on road and one on foot path...seriously though everyone is different. Dont force before 40 weeks, that baby needs you to grow, talk to midwife after 40 weeks as there is things she can do

Reflexology seemed to work for me with my daughter, but it's wasn't immediate, took a few days and even if it wasn't that which worked, I certainly enjoyed having my feet and legs massaged and relaxing before she arrived!! Good Luck!
