If your child is under 2 1/2 then they are probably not ready yet. Can't really help unless you give us an age.

Read them a story while they are on it? Offer a reward for staying on it regardless if they use it or not.

Let them potty train themselves when they are ready.

Though my oldest daughter just suggested duct tape....
