Ok, first, thank you to your husband for his service, and you for your support!
Have you checked the fit of the seat? If a kiddo screams for 250 our of 300 miles, then thats about 4 hours of screaming...that's not just a fit about travel, there is something making the poor guy uncomfortable!
It could be anything from his seat is pinching, straps are too tight, tummy is upset (arching the back), he feels constrained by the seat being small, he's got gastro issues (gas, etc), the sun is beating down on him, or in his eyes...He may have a skin irritation that is being aggravated by the extended sitting time...
The list goes on and on. How old is the kiddo? How often has he traveled anything over a trip to the store? HAS he traveled, other than this disastrous trip?
Generally, if they're fighting the seat, they've grown out of it, or it's uncomfortable in some way. But, for him not to settle for 3.5 to 4 hours...there's more than just a comfort thing. Was he in any way ill or "off" before you left?

He screamed for 250 miles out of 300.... nothing helped he threw his toys on the floor and spit his pacifiers out... here lately he has been crying when i put him in his carseat he will start pulling him self up or bowing his back and wiggleing so its harder for me to put him in it... i added padding to the bottom and back but it doesnt seem to help...
