I know every mother wonders this questions, but how do you know your doing a good job? I am a single mother and I live with my parents. I am trying my hardest but I still don't feel like I am doing the best job as a mother. Any idea's on how to be more secure about this feeling?

My mother offered me a piece of advice once that she had found to be true. She said that you're a good mother as long as you're trying and as long as you care about being one, but that, inevitably, we will all make mistakes because we're not perfect. Don't feel crippling levels of guilt whenever you think something worked out less than well; make mental notes and learn from the experience. As long as you love your child and always try to do your best for them, they'll know.

and some days keeping them alive is harder than people think lol. I had boys so they would grab a laundry basket and ride it down the steps before i even knew what was going on.
Even harder on some days not to kill them yourself.

Your kids are still alive. ;)
They are well loved and well cared for and they KNOW that you love them and want what is best for them... even when they 'hate' you. You do whatever it takes to make sure their needs are met and if you can't meet that need directly... you make sure you have someone around for them that can.
I have days that I feel like I'm a lousy mom, but then I look at my kids and I KNOW that I'm not.

Loving your baby, hugging, cuddling, feeding, rocking all make you a good mother. Good mother does not equal perfect mother. There is no such thing. :)

In my opinion, trying makes you a good mom. Yes even when we try we mess up. Or we tried the wrong way. No matter what part of parenting we're talking about trying it what makes you a good parent. Potty training, dealing with teething, how to feed them, keeping them healthy, dealing with bullies, if you try you're doing okay.
Think of all the times you look at someone and think they are a bad mother. It's because you don't feel they are trying. At least it's that way for me. People who don't immunize their children, doesn't bother me or make me see them as bad parents, they are doing what they think i right. But on the flip side of that coin is the parents who believe god will heal their dying child. For crying out loud- try something!!
In your situation as you said, you are trying. Trying to save money i assume. Trying to get your life together to be out on your own. Trying to parent around what others say is right and wrong. No one will ever be the perfect mother. All we can do it be the best one we are able to be with what we're given. Be grateful that you have your parents helping you. Tell them thank you and although your a mommy don't stop being a good daughter to them also.
