How do you teach a 3 1/2 year old to blow his nose?

When my son has a cold I try to get him to blow his nose but he ends up just blowing air out of his mouth. I've tried showing him what I do to no avail.

i found a good trick for the kiddies at my school !
place a straw on the table and get their heads down so only their noses are just on top of the table , then get them to try and blow the straw with their noses .
make it a fun game tell them the further they blow the straw the more points they get ( or whatever works best ) and when you have to next blow their nose remind them of the straw game .

Thanks guys - he does close his mouth but you can just hear the air escaping from the sides of it! I'll persevere :0)

all you can really do is keep trying and remind him to keep his mouth closed, my 3 year old has been able to blow her own nose since she was 2 but my 5 year old is still working on it

Just keep trying! And if he still does'nt know how to just wipe his nose really good. My son is now almost five and knows how to blow his nose but is'nt a really good wiper.
