I must say as a labor and delivery nurse, we really don't care about lost mucous plugs. It doesn't matter. It could be hours, but it could be weeks. It doesn't mean anything. You come in when your contractions are regular and getting stronger, closer and they actually hurt (3-5 minutes apart and stay that way for a few hrs-if they get even closer, come in)). Make sure you are hydrated! We see lots of women that come in dehydrated and contracting, but those contractions don't do anything. We hydrate them, the contractions go away. Just drink enough and avoid all that. And you come in if your water broke or if you are bleeding (not blood tinged mucous, but bleeding, like a period). This is for labor in full term pregnancies by the way. If you are earlier than that, you may need to get checked out for other reasons and for preterm labor.

I lost my mucus plug at 34 weeks. I didn't go into labor though until I was 38 weeks, the doctors said that was completely normal!

Okay, I'm locking this thread because it's from LAST YEAR. I'm sure she's had the baby by now.

It depends, I lost mine 2 weeks before my daughter was born, so don't use it as a definite determining factor to the start of labor. In fact, you can lose your mucus plug and it can grow back.

It can take up to 10 days and after you lose it the doctor told me that you can not take any bubble baths or have sex. The doctor/midwife likes to know this because they want to stress the importance of not doing certain things because it can cause infection.

I lost mine over a two week period. It was lovely, after it all came out it was about two weeks until I went into labor. Everyone is different though. It just means you are one step closer to the joy of motherhood. Get as much sleep as possible.

Every woman and every pregnancy is different. You can't really predict when labour will start. I'm 38 weeks pregnant. My mucus plug has been gone for 4 or 5 weeks now. My doctor is inducing me because of past history but if it wasn't for that I would still be going. Your little one will tell you when he/she is ready. Congrats and when the time comes good luck.

Well, obviously you've read from all the posts that you can loose your mucus plug weeks or days before labor (I lost mine 6 days before going into hard labor). Good luck. Try and get as much sleep as you can. x

I went into labor a couple of hours after I lost my mucus plug. I have heard other people say a couple of days or a week. Good luck!

I lost my mucus plug weeks before I went into labor. My doctor had me go in to be checked, but said losing your mucus plug didnt mean that I was going into labor and that that was perfectly fine!

I lost mine about three weeks before delivery. I was so excited, i took a picture of it with my phone. I told the midwife at my next visit, and she said.. 'ok'. No emotion, no panic... no worries. At 10cm.. on D day.. she points a towel at me and says, THIS is a mucus plug. After the baby came, I showed her the pic on my cellphone, and she said, "well, that certainly looks like a mucus plug.. maybe it replaced itself."
I guess it can do that.

I lost mine about 3 weeks before my inducement... Doc said it was normal and that it isn't a definite sign of impending labor... Just like dilating, you could go into labor the next day or 3-4 weeks from now... ya just never know... Every pregnancy being different and all.. Congratulations, though! Sounds like you're almost there! Good luck to you!

it really is different with every pregnancy. with my first i lost mine several hours before i had my daughter, maybe four or five? my water broke (at home) shortly after that. and with my second i did not notice a thing and must have during labour with my son, my waters broke in the hospital. but again every pregnancy is different. hope thing progress naturally for you! good luck!

well the fact that you lost your plug is a definite good sign! you can still have natural labour, don't be pressured to be induced, as long as everything is fine WAIT....untill they won't let you go any further, which for me was 10 days past my due date!

With all my three kids it was just the same. They all came a few minutes after losing the plug. But between the first and second child I was in labor for almost 13hours. As for the third, it was barely three and a half minutes only.

You can go into labor hours, days or weeks after loosing your mucus plug. I lost mine and did not have my daughter for about 2.5-3weeks. As far as not wanting to be induced caster oil worked for me. My midwife actually recommend it.You take 1once what ever you want to wash it down with. Its not very good stuff! I put it in hot tea. It help thin it more and it doesn't taste as bad. If nothing happens repeat after 3 hours. Now you may get diarrhea. I did. But it put me into labor and I was only in labor for 2 hours.
GOOD LUCK!!

Every case is different. My first I lost it then started labor and had her 12 hours later. My second, already 10cm dilated, with a baby coming feet first with just 5 hours of labor, she kicked it out along with her foot!

with my first son I had a show exactly one week before i went into labour, I informed my doctor and midwife they both said it's ok and to bind my time, but one week later i went into labour and had a bad infection....so please get yourself checked over. My second son was instant i had a show and 3 minutes later he was here, i had to give birth to him in the bathroom with my mother in-law present. I hope all goes well and good luck...congrats and let the fun begin lol

With my first I had a bloody show and it was 8 days before I had her with 20 hours of active labour. With my second one I just lost it with no blood and I was in full active labour 2 hours later and had him in 3 1/2 hours.

I lost my mucus plug 9 days prior to giving birth to my first son. I think everyone is different. Just the earlier you loose it the chances increase for infection, so I had to basically stay put and not do much just in case.
