Wasn't an adjustment at all actually because I do in home daycare and so I had my older two, had 18mo old twins that I watched 5 days a week 40-50hrs a week and then my newborn.

Like now I have my 14, 13 & 5yr old, have 3yr old twins that I have 50hrs a wk and now will have a newborn.

I also still had all my baby stuff. Since I always had babies in the house I never got rid of anything.

Okay, that makes sense. That's interesting that you had to wait so long for your 3rd son! It must have been quite an adjustment to have a baby in the house again.

I'm kind of glad to hear that you don't have a bajillion kids, even though you didn't take any measures to prevent it. I have some friends who are "letting God decide" how many kids they have, and they've got three already way too close together. It makes me worry for them.
It's probably different for different people, though. My friends might be the next Duggars! :/

I never took my temp or went through those measures however, I simply knew that about 2wks after the day of my period is the most fertile time.

For 3 of my pregnancies we weren't actively trying and we we weren't actively preventing either. For my 3rd pregnancy we actively tried for 7yrs. We actually had thought that we would just have our first 2 as that was what was in our cards. Then surprise finally pregnant.

This pregnancy we had just decided we were done and we were getting ready to make it permanent and surprise #4 is on the way.

We are 100% positive there will not be a #5 the day I deliver I am getting my tubes tied.

I was 30....2nd month of trying, miscarried, pregnant again with son #1 6wks later. With son #2 it happened on the first month of trying (I was 31). All were planned.

We don't have protected sex, ever. Haven't in a very long time (been together over 10yrs), but we don't have sex anywhere near when I'm ovulating. But that's easy for me to monitor as I get my period like clockwork, same time of the day every 26days....I could pretty well set my watch by it. When we want to fall pregnant we have sex every 2 days around ovulation, seems to work fur us.

I agree Morgan, if it's unplanned how does it take a particular amount of time.

Okay, I'm totally with you so far, Sherri, but I want a little more explanation, please. :)

I don't use "conventional birth control" either, I take my temp and chart the cervical mucus, and use a condom or just don't do it on the fertile days. I consider that to be birth control, same as anything else.

Now that we're trying to have a baby, I don't really follow it anymore. I'm still taking my temperature, but more to see when I've ovulated and if it spikes for a certain number of days, I know I'm pregnant sooner than a pregnancy test.

So we're not having sex purely based on when it might be a good time to get pregnant. (we tried that for my son and it totally killed our desire) But if it happens, that's great! I consider that "trying".

Would you comment further on that?

Just because you don't use conventional birth control doesn't mean you are purposely trying to become pregnant. We didn't mind a one of our pregnancies but except for one of my children we weren't actively trying to become pregnant either.

So what's the difference between "trying" and "unprotected sex"?
I see many of your answers make that distinction and it doesn't make sense to me. My sister-in-law was just talking about it, too, how she stopped birth control and then her second daughter was "a surprise".

Isn't not taking preventative measures the same as trying? Please explain.

To answer the question, I was 28 when I conceived, and we'd been trying for 7 months.

I was 24 (25 at the birth) when I conceived identical twins in the first month of trying (started trying after 2 months off of bcp)



The next 2 pregnancies took 6-8 months, but both ended in early miscarriages (I was just barely 29 and just barely 30).



The last pregnancy took about 6 months. I was 30... 31 when he was born.

First child: Conceived at 24; it was about 5 months after stopping the birth control pill



Second child: Conceived at 27; only 2 weeks after stopping the pill! (currently pregnant with this one)

1mo for first at 24 (wasn't trying), month or two (wasn't trying) for second at 25. 7yrs for #3 at 33, 5yrs for #4 (again wasn't trying) at 39.



Still pregnant with #4 and never used birth control ever.

I was 30 with my first and it took maybe 3 months. My second 33 and 2 months :|

I was 28 with my first baby, and it took us about 6 months and with my second I was 30 and it took a shorter time, maybe 4 months.
