I gained 34 lbs with my pregnancy. My son is now 7 1/2 months old and i cannot loose the extra 12 to 15 lbs. I eat healthy, I'm still breast feeding and I work out on a regular basis. All you are lucky who just lost it right away, I'm only 20 and I can't believe that nothing is working for me. Is there  anyone out there like me and how did everyone else get it off? Is there something I'm missing??

The younger you are the easier it comes off.  If you are planning on having more kids don't stress too much.  Remember, stress also packs on the pounds.  If we (woman) didn't worry so much about the weight # as much as other numbers in our lives the pounds would be easier shed.  The numbers to watch for, (they are fun #'s) how many steps our kids take, physical and mental, how many times you say "I Love You", how many times you laugh in a day, week etc. Well, you get the point.... Enjoy the little things and everything else falls into place.

I feel like I have an unusual story. One and a half weeks after the birth of my daughter I dropped the 25 lbs I gained during the pregnancy. A month later I gained 10 lbs. I was watching what I ate and excersizing. Some things, I feel, are just biological.

When I was younger (20's), the weight seemed to come off alot  faster... First one (I was 22), I wore my favorite old jeans home frome the hospital.  Second one (27), I left the hospital with only 10 pounds left  to lose.  My third (almost 35),  fourth (39) and fifth (41),  I left the hospital with more weight  to lose, and it took around 9 months to get back to my normal weight (around 120).  During each of the last 4 pregnancies, I gained 40 to 50 pounds.  I read an article recently that said, basically "it took 9 months to gain the weight, so you should give yoursdelf at least 9 months to lose it..  Like you, I'm 5'7", breastfed all 5 of my babies and never worked out (housework and chasing kids around was a workout itself).  I think because my pregnancies were pretty spread out helped too.  Its probably alot harder for women who have children close in age, one sfter the other.  Your body just doesn't have enough time to recover

I was lucky enough that i didn;t have to do anything to lose it either - only had about 35lbs to lose though! Think breastfeeding is the best way to go - mind u, if it wasn't for that i'd have been in my old clothes but my boobs didn't fit having gone up 5 cup sizes!

Can I brag? I was 7 1/2 stone (105lbs) and 5'7" before my first pregnancy, and went back to that weight within three months of giving birth every time. I breast fed, and did no particular exercise, apart from the post natal one's given to me by the midwife (which I did religiously). My weight has now crept up to a (frankly) healthier 9 stone (126lbs), but I watch what I eat and go to the gym 3x a week now - and I'm a grandma.

I lost almost all of my baby weight in about 3 months from nursing...as soon as I stopped nursing tho I gained all of it back (and that's with working out 5-7 times a week!) Some people are just more fortunate than others in that aspect...

I was 100lbs before I got pregnant and I gained 40 lbs by the end of the pregnancy. My son is 5 months old and I'm at 115 lbs now. I am nursing but am on birth control too, so I'm not sure if these counteract eachother or not. I have a feeling I'll never be the same as I was though, I was very thin and now I'm totally different....hips and everything:)

I was at my heaviest when I got pregnant, then I packed on over 40lbs during pregnancy.  I found it took about 6 months for the pounds to start melting away but I was very active with my son taking him for long walks every day and joining mom and baby yoga.  Now I participate in hot yoga classes regularly and found that once I weaned my son I dropped a few pounds as well.  Happily I'm at my "pre" pre-pregnancy weight which is about 20lbs lighter!

[deleted account]

I was 141 in the beginning and ended up to 170 at the end.  I'm only 5' though so it was a lot for me.  I also nurse my son and all of the weight came off by 8 weeks.  Granted, my shape is a little off, but the weight is the same.  I don't know why your doctor got so upset.  Mine was excited for me.  You didn't do anything wrong.

It's usually the way it goes. The body seems to bounce back to it's norm, pretty quickly, after the first baby. It also depends on your age and your metabolism. I gained 22kg but I ripped it off from breastfeeding and ended up weighing less than my pre-pregnant self; However, I was pretty sporty and fit so it didn't come as a surprise and I didn't think about it too much as I was too overwhelmed with my new responsibilities. I remember it to be about 2 months from birth which is super quick!

I'm now upto my third child and it gets harder each time to lose the weight and feel back to normal. I'm also a small frame so my babies growth (in the womb) was fully out in front. Its been 20months since the birth of my last son and my abdominal walls still haven't fully come back together. The body is still in need of repair. I have only just accepted that the process will take a little longer and am more relaxed. All part of the package.  All the best with motherhood.

My son is 8 months and I still have about 10lbs to lose.  I've been nursing, but found that it didn't help me to lose the weight because I continued to have a really big appetite.  Now I'm nursing less frequently and trying to get more active (walking, jogging, exercise classes) especially because the weather is getting better.  I'm finding it hard to lose the weight around my midsection.  Any tips?

I am not lazy or an over-eater. I do not work out at a gym but do chase after kids all day. We eat healthy meals. My boys are 6y and almost 4y and I am still fighting w/ that last 15pounds. I gained 30pds. with 1st and 19pds w/ 2nd. I have come to realize this must have been how I was always supposed to look. I somtimes wish that I was a 7 again but then realize would it really be any better? I would still have insecurities about those damn stretch marks that start at my pubic hair and travel all the way up to my ribs! Atleast I'm smushy to lay on. As my oldest tells me.

[deleted account]

With the first kids, I was in my skinny jeans in about 6 months; with the second kid (4 years later) I was in my skinny jeans in about 2 weeks. My third kid, on the other hand, (born 8 years later after I'd already hit my 30's) I'm heavier now than I was when I was pregnant with her. *sigh* Ah, who cares, I'm 36 and have had 3 kids; it's my prerogative to be fat if I want to. Besides, God only made so many perfect bodies. The rest, He skimped on. :-)

[deleted account]

my 1st I gained 45 and lost it all in 6 mo, but got my bod back in 9 (completely normal!)

my 2nd I gained 35 and lost in in 6 mo, but took me a year to get most of my bod back... Tire around my middle is gone, but still have a little bit of a "kangaroo pouch" left.

I gained about 35 pounds when i was pregnant. I could fit my jeans back on after about 2 weeks, but they weren't that comfortable. My daughter is now 5 months old and I have about 5 more lbs to lose. Once i went back to work the pounds started to come off a lot easier. I haven't dieted or excercised really.

I gained about 20kgs when I was pregnant with my 2nd child. I was 50kgs before I got pregnant. Huge chocolates fan!! It took me 12 months to get back in shape, without exercises or any diets. Never had a chance to nurse my baby but I was doing a lot of house chores plus my baby is not fond of sleeping! Thats what makes me shed off my weight so easily. In fact, I lost few kilos in my first three months.

Luckily I only gained 20 pounds with my son.  After one week I was back in my normal jeans.  I didn'y have a whole lot to lose though because I lost 12 lbs just in the hospital (the baby, the water, nursing).  While nursing, I just ate normal instead of eating extra like they tell you to.  I was amazed.  I started my pregnancy at 140 and after a week I was at 130.  I was a lucky one.

like Melissa, i only gained about 20lbs, and i lost it all and more within a week of coming home from the hospital. I was 156 pre-pregnancy, and i'm down to 146 now. breastfeeding definately helped with the extra 10 lbs, and i'm hoping to be able to soon get rid of the squidgy muffin top of belly that she left behind when my daughter was born!

I also nursed & all of the weight for both (2 pregnancys) was off in about 6 weeks. The second was lost faster because I was chasing a toddler & had a new baby. I truely believe if you are spending time with your little ones chasing them around & playing it will keep you busy enough. I have just now started working out again to tone my 6 pack again. (my youngest is 2) There are lots of thing you do in playing that can be muscle stengtheners! And don't eat anything after supper. Eat all your junk early in the day!

[deleted account]

I was 135 and gained 27 lbs.  Had my 6 week checkup today and have lost all the weight plus an extra pound.  No dieting and just a daily walk with the baby.  I am breastfeeding, so I would say that did it.  I ate healthily and exercised until I was 36 weeks (delivered at 38) and kept working until I went into labor.  I definitely eat more now than I did when I was pregnant, but still good food with a daily sugar fix in the afternoon.  Now I just need to relocate my abs.

5'3 and gained 80 lbs with my first one. Lost 45 of it within the first 2 months after giving birth. We discovered when she was 4 months old that I was pregant again; back up to 210. I've lost 45 again and have plateaued again. I was underweight when I found out I was pregnant (5'3" and 106lbs) so I decided to keep on a little bit of my baby weight. When I went in for delivery I had gained a whopping 52lbs, weighing in at 158. When I came home, I had severe baby blues and didn't have much of an appetite for the first week. After that, I ate 3 meals a day, but they were very low in fat and high in nutrition. At my 6 weeks check up, I weighed 121. At 10 weeks post-baby I had to go for a blood pressure check (I started the pill and they were concerned about my BP going up because it was elevated throughout the end of my pregnancy and delivery) I was down to 118 and I am very happy with the weight I am at now. I eat whatever I want, but I go to aerobics 2 to 3 times a week!

My first pregnancy, I got pre-eclampsia, started about 175, and gained 60 lbs (238). When I started paying attention to my weight again, I was at a stagnant 200. My daughter was 6 mo when I lost my milk supply. I went on a diet shortly thereafter (now that I wasn't breastfeeding), and got back down to 173. Got pregnant again after her 1st birthday, and just had my 2nd three months ago. I got up to 226 this time, and yet again at the stagnant 200. I'm only active chasing around my 2 year old, though I want to hit up the gym across the street. I haven't tried eating healthy; I just eat. If I have to stop breastfeeding again, that's when I'll diet & be more dedicated to weight loss. (I just have this thing against trying to diet while breastfeeding since you're supposed to get 500 extra calories/day).

What diet helped you Bonnie? Sounds like my situation. I'm stuck at a weight and can't knock it down any. Could you let me know??

With my first child I gained about 60 lbs. My goal was to get back to my pp weight within 1 year. I think that is a realistic goal. With my first child I was pregnant again a month after his first b-day. With the second one I set a similar goal and achieved it within less time (I gained less weight the second time around). As for fitting in to my pp clothes - that didn't happen until almost a year after the second one was born...I lost the weight but things weren't fully back in to the same places they were before.

But what did you do to lose the weight? What's the best way to stay in control of what you eat and stay on track with working out??? I'm very curious.

Hi Katherine - after about a month I was down to my pre-prego weight, I was down 30 pounds in the first week but it was a TON of water weight and I was retaining water so badly at the end that if I pushed my finger on my hand you could see the imprint of my finger - so nasty. But I am still heavier than I would like to be, but that is another matter I guess. At about 6 weeks I was back into some (of the more forgiving) pre-prego clothes I have. Nothing that is clingy though around the mid-section!

It depends on your pregnancy & how much you gave in to all those delicious cravings. My 1st child I lost all the weight very quickly. My 2nd & 3rd child I gained almost 100 pounds after the baby. I have to admit it was very depressing, but the baby was very healthy & so was I. I found breast feeding really helped with the weight loss. I also cut out all those yummy goodies & worked out 4 times a week in water & land exercise. Drank loads of water. It took just over 2.5 years, but I lost all the weight & was in better shape than before.
