Since it's not flu season can I take my baby girl out before the usual six weeks? Getting a sitter for EVERY errand is getting old :/

I didn't get my lo out at all for the first few months! Except to the Dr. planned visits and then I would only go to early first morning appts. It is very bad if your newborn gets sick, they will have to be hospitalized, IV's run so on so forth, if there is any way possible I would keep her home.

All of my kids were out and about within 6-10 days. And that's more than just a trip to the store (last kid was 3 days old and just out of the hospital going grocery shopping) that I'm talking about. That's big events where other people (well known to me) were holding and touching them. ;)

I've been told by every nurse and all my family to wait to take her out to walmart, the mall, etc. because there are so many people with so many different germs. I've had friends that take their babis out, they get sick and it's routine at the hospital to give them a spinal tap, IV and in some cases a feeding tube. Nobody else has been told this?

I've never heard of any restriction of 6 weeks......why wait? If your baby is healthy and the weather is good, why would you wait 6 weeks? With my first, I took him out shopping the first day out of hospital. My youngest was different, though, because she spent 10 days in the Special Care Nursery in hospital when she was born, so I was a bit more concerned for a few weeks. But as long as your little one is healthy I see no reason why you shouldn't take her out :\

My son and I got out of the hospital on a Thursday morning, and then went out shopping the next day. He was about 4 days old :P
I don't see a problem with it. At long as you are capable of being up and around, I don't see any reason to keep baby home at all.

Were i live it used to be 10 days but that was for mum not baby, now the recommendation has changes and as long as mum "takes it easy" you can go out straight away if you want to.

I'm not sure how I would manage at all not been able to go out for 6 whole week's!

I waited 6 weeks with my only because it was cold and flu season, if they had been born any other time of the year I probably would of just waited a week or two.

I agree with Sarah, my life didn't stop because I had a baby. Especially when you have more than 1. I was shopping on my way home from the hospital with #3 and she was only a day old.

i've never heard of there being a minimum time to keep a baby home? I used to take all of my kids out when they were newborn and they survived
