How many kids for the perfect family?

My husband grew up in a family of 10 brothers and sisters (plus him) and both his parents and I only had my mom and my sister until my mom got remarried. I always have wanted a big family of 5 or 6 kids, and my husband wants only 2 or 3. Am I being unreasonable for wanting a big family when he's had one his whole life?

Maybe you could compromise at 4 lol. I don't think there is a formula for the "perfect" family. I have 2 kids and feel that i have the PERFECT family. I have a wonderful husband, a beautiful little girl and the most handsome little boy. My daughter has blue eyes and my son has brown eyes. My daughter is outgoing and a little high strung. She is scholarly and sweet. My son is laid back and funny. He is active and has a little devilish streak. BOTH kids are wonderful and smart, funny, and loving. I feel like I have it all with just 2!!!! I used to think 3 made the perfect family until I had my kids. After my first child (my daughter), I felt like if I never had another child in my whole life, I had the perfect family. My husband and I decided to try for baby number 2 with the attitude that IF it couldn't happen (for whatever reason) then that was O.K. and God had blessed us with our daughter. We went from being the luckiest people on the planet to the luckiest people in the UNIVERSE when we were blessed with our son. I feel VERY at peace with my two kids and feel I have been given SOOOOO much MORE than I would have ever thought I deserved. So for our family 2 is the perfect family, but I think that when you have reached your perfect family, you'll know it!!!

We have 5 kids. We are open to more, but with genetic concerns we are making every effort to prevent it right now.

thank you ladies.. and I see all yours points! Every time I try to talk to him about it he just makes jokes and never has a conversation with me about it or he just says "we'll talk about it later" ... It is very frustrating.

I dontt think that you are being unreasonable. I understand why you would want to have that big family experience since you didnt have it growing up, but I do think that maybe you should try to understand why your husband doesnt want to go that big. Having 10 brothers and sisters might not have been all that great to him as a kid. I am not saying that he doesnt love them! I just know that some people who grew up in a house full of people sometimes dont want to repeat that experience. Maybe he didnt get enough quiet time, or a lot of time with his parents one on one, or the bathroom always had a line, lol...I really think that you should talk this through with him and find out exactly why he isnt going for it...after all, this is something that you and he will eventually do together, not you two and the circle of moms community

hmmm thats a tough one. but i would have to say its never wrong for wanting a big family, and its never wrong for haveing a small family.. Either way finacially its hard. I personally want a big family, but im happy for the two i got. Maybe someday ill have more but who knows. But theres really no wrong way of dealing with this, maybe you and ur husband should come up with a reasonable number of children to have, so that your both happy!!

I always wanted a big family.,..until I went into labour with my son. LOL. I think it all depends on your financial state and obviously what you both want. You could always comprimise on a good number for both of you..It will take some really serious conversation!

I dont think so at all. Its a financial struggle for most to have that many kids, talk it over try to come to a happy medium and if that does not work go to a marriage counselor that can help both of you see both sides.
