My pediatrician told me to offer my son 1/2 of his body weight in ounces every 3-4 hours. So, if your child weighs 12 lbs offer 6 ounces. This was the best advice ever because I never knew if he was getting enough.

My daughter is 3 months old and drinks 2/3 OZ every 3 hours. She weighs 13 pounds. My pediatrician says she's right in tact. Every baby is different. When my oldest daughter was three months old she could eat 4/5 OZ every three hours. Your babies cues are going to tell you what is best.

My son is fixing to be 4 months and he's eating 4 oz. every 3 hours. I think that you're feeding amount/schedule is fine!

all of my kids were big eaters too. sounds like yours i close to what all of ours were. we started cereal in the bottle at about that age (i know your not supposed too, but they all ate so much, formula wasn't enough). at 4 months were started spoon feeding them cereal then on to veggies and fruit by 5 months. ask your pediatrican if your not sure

i have been feeding my daughter at 2 months of age  6.5 oz every 3 hours, but it depends on how much she will take.

there is days that i will give her 4oz every hour, you will learn the baby's feeding habits.

Baby should consume 24 oz. of formula in a 24 hour period. 3-4 oz every 3-4 hours.

When my daughter was 3 month's old, she was drinking about the same and having her feed's every 4 hours. I do not think that there is a set amount a child should be drinking at that age as it varies from child to child. We did try to increase it to about 6oz, but she would only drink the original amount and leave the rest. Hope this helps. Ranj,

I'm no expert or anything but I've heard that you can take your child's weight and times that by 2.5 and whatever you get is how much they should eat. As they get a little older and start eating different things I'm not sure how that would go. So if your child was 10lbs you would do 10 x 2.5 = 25 oz a day. That's just a rough estimate. For the most part your child will also tell you when he/she is hungry / full. = )

I would ask your pediatrician on how much your son should be eating at this age. I would tell the doctor about how much he drinks his formula and how often to see if he's eating enough. The doctor can tell you if he's getting enough formula or not. But to me it sound about right.

If you are worried it is not enough, then add one more ounce and see how he does. If he takes it and doesn't spit it back up, then keep it. Babies eat when they are hungry - so, if you are feeding him the 5 ounces and he is waiting the 4 hours to let you know he's hungry again, you are fine. My girl was a big baby and she averaged 4 ounces every 4 hours around 3 months.

If you are worried that he needs more, put an ounce or 2 extra in and see if he drinks it. If he doesn't drink it or if he does then pukes it up, then he doesn't need any more. I breastfed but that sounds like a reasonable amount to me.

Each baby is different. If he still seems hungry then you may want to increase the formula maybe not in every feeding, but say the last bottle of the night or at mid day. you will have to experience to see what he likes the best and what works for him

suppose depends on the baby itself really, every child is different.
when my son was 3months, he was downing 8oz every morning, lunch time, tea time and before bed. he was hungry baby and also had spoon or two of baby food for breakfast, lunch and tea time, bed time i wouldnt give him anything like it, just his bottle, since put him on the baby food also slept from 9pm right to till 7am also.

if your child seem to be hungry could up the oz but if seem fine and full, putting on the weight and happy then leave it be for another month to increase the amount and feeding solid's. i did mix some the baby milk out the bottle to mix up his baby food, was only enough for no more then 2-3 spoon full till was 6months where mixed up bit more or blending likes potato's, carrots and chicken where was similar to baby food.

you know your baby more then any of us, so just go with the demands and needs.
enjoy the moments and good luck :)

it depends on the kid. my 2 1/2 week old eats 2-4oz every 3-4 hours. this is something that you need to talk to your doctor about. my doctor told me to let my son eat as much as he wants when he wants. when my 2 year old was 3 months we started mixing rice ceral in his formula because he wasn't getting full enough. but like i said ask your doctor if your not sure

I agree with Tammy every baby is different. As long as he/she doesn't seem to be starving I would not worry too much. However if you are really concerned I would speak to a professional about it.

[deleted account]

That's exactly how much my son ate at that age. Every baby is different and some eat more than others. My pediatrician said that babies typically eat their age in months + 1 or 2 more extra ounces so a 3 month old would be eating 4 or 5 ounces.

I think every baby is different and it all depends on the baby but to me 5 oz every 4 hours doesn't seem like much at all. But if he is putting on weight fine, has plenty of wet/ dirty nappies and seems happy I wouldn't worry about it very much, if he isn't, then there would be cause for concern. I am bf but when I got to work my three month old drinks prob between 4 and 6 oz every two to three hours.
