yeah Brianna wont drink the high calorie formula that was put down her tube she just drinks milk shakes water, and juice and little bits here and there of gatorade (got it to help with hydration). Sound like you do such a great job with him Ill try the pureed apples and stuff and try putting it in the custards. I want her to have a healthy diet and get everything she needs nutrionally. Your right she is doing quite well considering :)

oh my! poor little mite... she has had a a big couple of months... I am glad to hear she's doin' better - I know nothing about tube feeding and the effects but it does sound like she is doing extremely well to take what she is taking... I went back to pureed fruit with Mack when he refused all fresh fruit - this way I could put it in custards and yoghurt, etc. I was worried at the time he would never eat fresh fruit properly again but I needn't have worried he is back into fruit again although he still chews up apple then spits it out - doesn't do it with any other fruit...

oh wow that is amazing Bri gets no where near that. See she is just learning to drink hence the reason I was worried about her amount of wet nappys I wasnt sure if she was getting enough fluids she Had a feeding tube for 16 months and got everything through that so now she has to realise how much she needs to drink to keep her hydrated and she seems to be getting the hang of it fairly well I guess i was still just a bit concerned :)

sorry about the bad spelling I just noticed it. And thanks I will try those ideas problem with fruit is she bites bits off and spits it all out. Maybe I should try more of the pureed fruits. I buy wholemeal bread not sure if its as good as multigrain and I will see if I can get some prunes. thankyou

Glad to help Melissa.. Mackenzie went thru a period of constipation a few months ago. (Happened at the same time that he starting to refuse fruit). I did exactly what you are doing! Worried constantly about hydration, getting enough fluids, etc. So back we went to the specialist again and he said that that the constipation was a diet (food) issue not a fluid issue... After that I tried every trick in the book to get more fruit into Mack (boiled prunes mashed into custard worked a treat - I know it sounds yuck but Mack ate it; also multi-grain bread and porridge are supposed to be good) and after a couple of weeks his movements were regular and soft. And now he is great, gets a little constipated for one nappy every couple of weeks but just pump the fruit into him afterwards and it corrects itself.

I won't bug you anymore - I just know how anxious I was when I was going through this.

thankyou it does help, she does eat certain foods well but I need to try and get her to eat more fruit and vegies because she has constipation all the time. I do leave cups around the place all day, and yes the morning one is usually heavy a couple times it hasnt been. I did read some of the signs on the net and about the diluted juice. She drinks alot of juice and water to keep her hydrated, well what i think is enougha dn her nappys have increased it was 3-4 a day at one point, now shes getting much better but still hoping she is dirnking enough and hoping i can get rid of this constipation

I have an 18 month old little boy and have always been concorned about his hydration. He doesn't like milk - not from day one, which made the first twelve months very difficult... My doctor advised me of a few signs of dehydration to keep an eye out for.. He said that the number of wet nappies varies from child to child. *dark yellow urine in the nappy (usually very strong smelling) *dry lips and mouth *sunken fontenelle (soft spot) So now if I am concerned at all about Mack's hydration I usually give some highly dilated juice (a treat - used only for this purpose) and he also loves sucking on ice. But I usually find that he quenches his own thirst now. Oh, and I put a drink bottle of water in the same spot in the kitchen all thru the day so he knows were it is and can help himself when he wants. Mack would probably average about the same number of nappies as your child. but if I change his nappy and notice it a little drier than usual I will give them the juice or ice as mentioned earlier. Is your little ones early morning nappy heavy? Mack's usually is. All the professionals (quite a few since he was born) have all said this one thing - that a child who is eating well but not necesarily drinking that much will still stay hydrated from the fluid in the food. Dehydration rarely occurs unless the child has vomiting or diahorea.

Not sure if this helps you at all. I hope so, I know how worrying it can be!! Take Care..
