My 1 yr son get's 2 bottles of 5 to 6 oz at during during the day plus at bit before he goes to bed and for breakfast. However, we want to start getting rid of the bottles. I just want to make sure he get's the right about of nutrients....

I was told 16 oz of milk is the recommended. During the summer a couple oz of water should be added to that.

My son is not a big milk drinker. He has one 10oz sippy cup before bed and maybe 5oz before his nap also in a sippy cup. He generally don't take the nap cup or rarely drinks it all, and the night time cup is almost never always finished. So I'd guess of the 15 oz I offer he probably is getting more like 10. But I also offer him dairy foods to eat through out the day like yogurts, cheeses, cottage cheese, and all that so I'm sure he's good for his dairy intake.

I echo Karen's advice. If you stick with four 5-oz cups of milk a day, that's 20 oz (I'm good at math!), and that'll be about right.

I was always told that around 600ml, and that's what I gave my kids. That is around 21 ounces. They need to also be receiving their calcium from other sources, so at his age, he should also be consuming other dairy foods, such as cheese and yoghurt, and probably have milk on breakfast, etc. So I wouldn't go with any more than 600ml of milk in bottles and/or cups. However, don't go less than about 400ml (around 14oz). That should be an absolute minimum. Judge it based on how many other sources of calcium and other nutrients he is getting.
