i think if you want to go crazy on christmas then go ahead just make sure you are going to buy what he needs if he is growing out of all her old clothes and really needs new ones then go ahead and go crazy y not when are you going to get better deals and sales then now i asked all family memebers to keep in mind what she already had and how much room we have to store it (we live in a small one bedroom apt) i mainly asked for educational toys something to stimulate her mind and develop skills but i also asked them to buy clothing a bit big so i wouldnt have to do it for her later so christmas can be a blessing in many diff ways hope this helped

Oh to answer your question, if you cant afford it (or are putting it on credit) its too much. If you can afford to easily pay cash for it, then go for it! Thats our philosophy on all spending.

I already spent a ridiculous amount of money on him throughout the year! My husband says I should just wrap up everything he hasn't had a chance to play with yet. He is only 9 months. So I really didn't get him much for christmas, about 5 presents but mostly cheap ones, he already has sooooo much.

The baby won't really understand, but this is your first Christmas with him/her, so nothing wrong with having fun with it. There really isn't a general limit. It depends on what you want to buy, your income, financial state, etc. That's an individual decision based on your personal situation. I don't buy many toys over the year, but splurge on anything and everything that catches my eye on Christmas. When my kids were that young, we got more enjoyment than them. They did love to play with all the wrapping paper and boxes though!

I have a 2 year old and a 9 month old. I spent like $100 on my son this year (the most yet) and less for my daughter. The truth is that they're not all that interested at this age and everyone buys for a baby. You will end up with a ton of stuff no matter what. We've tried to be more practical about these days (buying things with long term usage). Spend what you want but be forewarned that you'll have to find a place to put it all later.

I think we've spent around $200 on our 10 week old bub for Christmas. We both have big families, so we know she will get very spoilt from everyone else.
The 'big' present we got for her was a CD player for her room because she loves music (the mobiles always turn off and that wakes her up sometimes). We also got her a tummy time play gym, a small inflatable pool (we're in Australia, it's hot here) and some books, DVDs etc.
My partner didn't want to get her very much because "she won't remember" - but what about photos and baby books - all of those things are a reminder for her as she grows up. :)
Enjoy your first Christmas with your child...as long as you can afford it, it's never too much.
MERRY CHRISTMAS!!

my daughter is 6 months old and its her first christmas this year, and also my first christmas as a mum.
we bought her:
a set of bath toys $10
a dress $10
an overall outfit $14
thats it!!
my mum on the other hand has bought her a $300 sand pit and is also buying her a dozen cloth nappies for $360... not to mention the $100 cheque from her grangran!
i figure, she wont remember and the rest of my familly is going to spoil her rotten so i may as well save my money and spend it on something more useful!

my son will be a year old january 3rd. we spent a load of money. alot of what we got was clothing as he needed it. He knows what presents are, so it was difficult. (we had a small party when he was 6months old so family could get together) we still got him toys and we even got a game system for him(vtech vsmile baby) with multiple cartridges for it. Do what you want, it is your baby and your 1st christmas with him. We are 1st time parents as well!!!

I personally think it's silly. When my kids were that little, we just got them some clothes and a few little toys. Start or add to a college fund instead. it's much more productive! =)

We spent alot of money on our son for his first christmas... he didn't use anything we bought except the clothes. He hated everything else lol. The next year we thought he was a year older maybe he would enjoy stuff that year nope just boxes and a few basic toys. This year we cut our limit in half. It is ok to spend if you ahve the money... but in my experience (and other mothers I have talked to) they don't generally care about gifts lol.

spend as much as u like/can afford I say! My son was 6mths old for his 1st xmas...and my daughter will be 7 and a 1/2mths old for hers....I bought more for him than I have for her for definite...not because I wanted to, more coz I can afford it (or justify the expense..when I'm thinking sensibly/....which isnt often!!), coz I remember going mad for his....and he slept most of the day and it was ME who had to unwrap it all!! And part of my reasoning for not going mad with my baby girls 1st is rememberin how much every1 else bought and him ending up with a ludicrous ammount of stuff!!
Oh belive me tho I wanted to buy her loadsa stuff!! It'll have to wait until her 1st birthday maybe! She'll be into more then anyway!!
But enjoy yourself hun, remember tho, no matter how much u buy/how much u spend, your LO will still have the BEST 1st Xmas because their with YOU.......not how many toys they got!!
Merry Xmas to u and your LO hun xxxx

Quoting Danielle:
Mine son will be 8 months old in 2 days and I am guilty of spending a ridiculous amount of money for his first Christmas...he will more than likely be more entertained by the empty boxes and wrapping paper...however...I justify it by saying, it's my first Christmas as a mother...I can if I want to!
Thank you!! Haha. It's mine too and it's my sons. I want to make it special and fun. Even if he won't technically remember there will still be 651841310 pictures. I say if you're able to spend that extra money go right ahead!

If you have already spent a ton of money then perhaps now is the time to stop. My daughter was 11 months old for her first christmas and I think we spent $100 in total. Same with our son, he was 3 months for his first. Babies usually prefer to play with the wrapping paper.

I didnt evenbuy hardly anything for my kids when they were little like that, they have no need for anything, they dont understand the concept, save your money if you have to buy something get a couple outfits or something they NEED. If you absolutley have to spend money at this age it would be way better served for you to buy a savings bond or start a college fund. Lets be real here your baby isnt gonna remember or hate you for not buying her/him a ton of stuff...at this age is more for you to feel better. Trust me, as she/he gets older youll have enough stress at xmas and bdays... why start now?
