We just started introducing milk to Rylee within the last couple days, she will be 1 in about a week, so we haven't completely switched over yet but slowly we are....How much milk should our 1 year old drink per day when we completely switch?

I was told no more that 24 oz a day. I give mine around 8oz at most 16. It's the fat in it that is important.

My boy is 3 years old and he still gets a cup of milk. At 1 year old, he was getting about 4-5 btls a day...he even ate solids and drank water...milk is not bad and can even go on even to our age (i still have a glass of milk once in a while)

This is from the first part of that link Amanda
How much milk should my toddler drink?

Your 1- to 2-year-old child should drink 16 to 24 ounces of whole milk a day. While you'll most likely have to work to make sure he meets the requirement, keep in mind that it is possible for him to drink too much milk.

If your child drinks more than two to three glasses of milk during the day, he may not have room at dinner for the other foods that he needs to round out his diet. (He needs plenty of iron-rich foods like leafy green vegetables and meat, for example, because milk does not contain iron.) So if your toddler's thirsty, get him in the habit of drinking water throughout the day, too.

It says drink, not in total for all calcium.

Amanda is correct. My daughter (21 months) rarely drinks more than one cup of milk a day but I'm not worried about it because she eats a well balanced meal and plenty of calcium enriched foods. Fish (salmon), beans, peas, green leafy vegetable (spinach, broccoli), oranges, yogurt, cheese etc. just to name a few!

Good luck ladies!

No that 16-20 ozs goes down if you feed your child other calcium enriched foods.

Try to limit the milk to meal times and snacks. Don't give it just as a drink because she can fill up on the milk and not eat food.
