How often do you bathe your children???

I saw an interesting conversation about how often you bathe your children and it has now been closed. Would like to continue on. We all bathe once a day in this household. I wash my hair and both of my sons hair every other. We have psoriasis. I have sensitive skin so I use Dove soap and my children who are 2 and 5 1/2 still use baby soap and it's gentle for their skin. I thought it was the norm to bath everyday. Children are very messy little human beings and adults are prone to sweating. I used to bathe and then shower everyday but no longer have the time. The nurses at the hospital had told me with my first born to bathe him every other, but I just could not let him go that long. Babies spit up and their necks get stinky and baths sooth them. I always used either lotion, baby oil or baby powder and never had a problem with their dry skin. They love their baths and to play in the tub. It's a part of our daily routine and it helps them wind down before bedtime. It's up to you as parents to decide what is good for your children and we found what has always worked for us.

Hahaha...poor Laura.

I say wash yourself when you're dirty. That's different for everyone, because we all have different bodies and different lifestyles. Perhaps one person does need to bathe twice a day whereas another person usually only needs every other day. It doesn't mean that one person is stinkier than another- they're just different people.

Aside from her birth in the tub, my second didn't get an official bath until she was two weeks old- on me in the tub again. I wasn't about to scrape away all that skin-conditioning vernix that they always seem so eager to remove in hospitals.

Mine get bathed everyday because they are filthy little creatures. They are very messy eaters and my youngest (21 months) is going through a phase at the moment where she likes to smear her food through her hair so there's no way she can go a day bath free. They are also very outdoorsy kids so after playing in the garden or at the park they are pretty grubby.
We bath them as part of our bedtime routine, they know its dinner bath then bed so it throws them out if we skip a night
Her skin is quite sensitive to soap so I use a soap free body wash on her.
I shower every day too and my hair gets washed most days as well, but then I go to the gym 5 days a week.

My LO is 9 months so I don't bathe her everyday. I like to do it 1-2 times a week. If we get out of the house alot one week then I bathe her more often because of sweat and sunblock..etc.

I think we're just a bit paranoid about germs and dirt these days. (see the discussion about showering after a bath) I take a shower approximately every other day and my toddler goes in the shower with me or my husband when I notice he's getting whiffy, plus he has a bath once a week. Probably he gets a full body wash about two or three times a week, more if the timing happens to work out that he can visit Daddy in the tub. (my husband loves baths)

Summer is different than winter, of course. More sweating and less worry about dry skin. I still don't use soap or shampoo of any kind on my son unless he's got into something really sticky. In the shower it would be dangerous - he's slippery enough as it is!

My eldest son is 3 and my youngest is coming up to 2....
Mon : They have a bath and i have it with them!...
Tues : Shower & Hair Wash!...
Wed's : Wet wipe wash!...
Thurs : Bath and i usually get in with them!...
Fri : Wet wip wash!...
Sat : Shower & Hair wash!...
Sun : Bath or Shower depending how tired they are!...
After every bath or Shower i rub lots of Johnsons Baby lotion all over them from head to toe to keep there skin nice and moist and soft.... The only reason they dont get a proper bath/shower on a Weds is because they have a long day out and are very tired when get in.... As for Fri they have a nite off as have there shower & hairwash on the Sat morning sometime..... They only miss 2 out of 7 nites and on them 2 nites they both have a thorough wipe down with wet wipes..... It is very important to keep clean....!! :-))

About 3 times a week. If she's dirty on her arms & legs, then I'll just wash those before bed at night. With our skin type, she'd end up having issues if we bathed her more frequently. Especially if we washed her hair everyday. She has my skin type, and if I wash my hair everyday it gets really dry and my scalp hurts.

my son is five he has a bath or shower every other day usually unles circumstances mean he has to skip an extra day or unles hes super dirty and needs an etra one. hair is washed 2-3 times a week, he has a "full body waash" (face, neck behind ears, armpits, feet, private bits) every morning and night (unles hes had a bath that night) when he was a baby he probably only got bathed 2 times a week, the rest was top n tail, but when he was ages 1 until about 3/4 he had a bath every night.just for a bit of bedtime routineif anything x

I give a bath to my daughter usually every other day. Sometimes an extra day squeaks past if she is tired, or sometimes we do a bath a day if shes exceptionally filthy!
Every other day seems to be pretty average for our household though. She is 5 1/2 and I find her hair gets ridiculous and poofy if she does a bath a day, because she INSISTS on shampooing her hair every time. It ends up drying her hair and skin out, so im either gunna be spending 100 bucks a month on lotions and spray in conditioners, or she can have one every other day :D
My son (2 days overdue, hes not here yet) will probably get a bath a week, and just cloth dabs in between until hes a month or two old, but it will be summer, so he might get a few extra cool sponge baths :)

Tammy have you tried getting them to use body wash both my 5 yr old and 10 yr old like it better then the bar of soap so they both have their own body wash

i bathe once a day and so does my son. if he gets really messy he might bathe twice a day.i think tht toddlers get too messy to go more than a day without bathing,.and it does help calm him down before bed.

I bathe my son every second day, unless he's gotten into something or is extra-messy. On alternating days, I just wipe his face, hands, feet, and privates with a warm, damp washcloth.

For myself, I shower every day, but I only wash my hair once a week, twice maximum. And before you all start yelling "gross!", my hair is coarse, thick, and curly. It takes a good 5 days before it even barely starts getting greasy. If I washed it every day, not only would it start looking like a scrub pad, but my arms would be worn out, considering the fact that my hair takes 45 minutes to blow dry.

Wow 2 baths/showers in one day. That's a lot. That really isn't good for the skin. I bathe mine every other depending on the situation. If they're extra dirty it's as needed.

Me every day. I have greasy hair and skin and if I don't it's just gross.

At my house the shower everyday. It is always hot in the summer and they sweat. My 8 yr old is always in the dirt. She needs it. Her brother on the other hand might not need it everyday but it gets done. Our problem is getting them to use soap. I see the point about germs but now some of the germs you do want to kill. Both of my children have a blood disorder and one gets sick a lot and the other never get sick. Good hygiene is important.

everyone in my house gets a shower before going to bed that is dads big rule. Which is god it helps them relax and sleep better. I try to take a shower and wash off, then sit and soak in the tub to relax. Me and my daughter both have curly hair so if we don't wash our hair with in 24hrs we itch a lot. with it being summer they don't get to dirty because they don't ever want to get out of the pool lol

My six month old gets wiped down (bird bath) a lot.... but I would say every other to every day for him(actual in sink in water bath), and once a day (sometimes 2-3 time... depending on how much dirt he decides to muck in... or if we have spaghetti...) before bed.

I bathe my kids every 3 or so days, My daughter gets heaps dry skin (ezcema) and it really drys out her skin if i bathe her more then that. However if i bathe them on day and they a filthy the next day they will have a bath. Also for some reason where i live the council or water people think its an awesome idea to put that much chlorine in that water that if you want to go to an indoor pool u should just fill the bath with the doors closed cause the bathroom will smell just like your at the pool. Its gross...

I bathe my newborn about twice a week in the tub, I clean his diaper area, neck, and face with a washcloth every day.
My three year old has a bath at least every other day, during the summer when he sweats every day. I personally wash my body everyday but wash my hair typically every other day unless I feel dirty or need to stye it to go out, My hubby prefers to bathe every day.

I have an eleven month old baby and she gets a bath every night I feel like if we go a day with out a bath she is restless at night and awake every so often if she gets a bath every night then she sleeps through the night and wakes up refreshed and in a great mood! I know I want to shower at least once every day so why shouldnt I do the same for my baby who has no say so rather they feel as if they need a bath or not. Giving her a bath and giving her some play time in the tub is part of our routine at night and has been every since I brought her home from the hospitol.

You know when I was younger alot younger we lived near this house that we weren't allowed to go near and we were never allowed to play with these kids. When you got too close to the house the smell was so awful it made you gag! Well these kids were never sick ever. My mother use to tell us they are so dirty all the time they will never be bothered with any germs because the germs will not stay on them, their bodies resist all germs. She had a point there, people today are too clean we can't fight off any germs that come our way. Well I think she has a good point, but it's hard not to bath as often as we do because I like being clean! Oh well will continue to fight off the germs best way I can and stay clean! :)

Oh... and over here if you swim in the ocean and don't shower/wash your hair before bed.... You just might end up w/ cockroaches in your hair. My mom learned that one when I was a kid. ick

[deleted account]

Every day. My son (3) doesn't neccessarily need soap every day, but he will have a major meltdown freak out if he doesn't get a bath/shower. My girls are 9.5 and in the beginning stages of puberty, so.... shower/bath EVERY day w/ soap.

I can't sleep if I don't wash my hair every 24ish hours cuz my head will itch like crazy. Last time I skipped washing my hair for a day was the day my girls were born. Learned my lesson by that and took a shower at 4am before going into the hospital to have my son. ;)

I totally argree with bathing daily, it relaxes them and us for that matter and it also does depend on the activies you do but to each its own! Everyone is different but if my kid were at a day care or school daily shes in the bath tub no questions asked. We wonder why our kids catch colds and everything else from other kids. To many germs in this day and age to allow them into your household by not simply washing them away... My opinion!!!
