6 months. We started with table foods for self-feeding, soft fruits and cooked veggies. I think banana and steamed broccoli were among the first things we offered.

We started experimenting at 6 months but she wasn't really interested until closer to 8 or 9 months. We skipped the purees and went right to soft finger food, like baby carrots that were steamed until they were nice and soft, baked potato, sweet potato fries, slices of banana, avocado, etc.

Quoting Erinn:
How old was your baby when he/she started to eat solids??
What were some of the first foods you introduced??
Our daughter was 3 months when she cut her first 2 teeth!!! I was breastfeeding until then!! She went on pablum then...I continued to pump and introduced formula. She reached across the table at about 4 months and took a piece of my husbands chicken finger....at this point she had 4 teeth! she started chewing it...... we introduced homemade foods such as sweet potato, carrots and sheppards pie... I made all of it, put into little ice cube trays and they were handy. We also put her on baby yogart.....Sarah is now 12 years old, 5ft 8 full perfect teeth...really the dentist loves her teeth, she has great skin and a witty sense of humor of about a 20 year old.....why do I tell you this, cause everyone lectured me on giving her food too soon, except for her pediatrician who said..hey if she is hungry give it to her.
Best of luck Erinn.
Regards, Cathy

We didn't start until 6 months. She was acting ready before then, but since she was a little early the ped wanted to wait a full 6 months. We started her on rice cereal, then green beans, then carrots. Then we moved into fruits. I bought a little hand food grinder, and could then just give her well cooked veggies and chicken or turkey that wasn't spiced. She still doesn't have teeth, so we're still only giving her foods she can gum. The baby food we used was gerber - I was surprised how few ingredients were in them (the single food ones at least).

just happened to see this- Rice rusks = the rice version of those little biter biscuits, zweibacks or whatever they are called. That reminds me of something my kids loved that you can't get in the US, Fenchel tee. It is fennel tea and my kids LOVED it and it really helped with their digestion. If you have access to it, it's great.

I have 4 and they all started after 6 months. My oldest daughter ate almost no solid food until she was 9 months. I breastfed them and they would go through growth spurts that made it seem like they were nursing ALL THE TIME, but that's normal and you just feed them as often as they get hungry. Once they could sit up well and could grab food and cram it in their mouths (around 6 months) I started giving them bits of soft foods- more for practice and to feel like they were "eating with us" than anything else. We only used a small amount of baby food and only for a very brief time. They really didn't get a significant amount of their nutrition from solid food until closer to a year old and by that time they could eat table foods. I'm not a fan of baby cereal. Early foods my kids liked: rice cakes, tiny bits of cheese, frozen peas and corn, the dehydrated fruits and veggies that you can get in a packet in the baby aisle (at least here in the US), organic cereal like Cheerios or Rice Crispies, yogurt, applesauce, bananas and beans. I gave very little meat until they had a bunch of teeth, mainly because most of the kinds of meat a baby can eat are either A. disgusting B. full of preservatives or C. have too much salt or spices for a baby or D. All of the above. Best wishes on your baby feeding!

Mine was about 2 mos when we started on rice cereal. I couldn't keep up with her, and refused to feed her formula. At about 3 mos, we started her on baby food of sweet potatos, vanilla custerd, green beans and hawiian delight. By the time she was 5 mos, she was eating chopped up hot dogs and mac n cheese.
