How should I go about getting my son to eat without a nipple shield?

I was trying to put the shield on tonight and he wouldn't eat with it he kept pulling it off then on time he just pulled it off then latched really fast to my breast without the shield i was amazed!!

It was really difficult for me and emotional to get my daughter to stop needing the shield. But it ended up not having enough flow. I ended up trying skin to skin nursing for both of us, and eventually started cutting little bits of the end of the shield off so that it was less appealing than having to work to latch on. It's probably not recommended by any means, but it's what I did and eventually it worked. It was frustrating and I cried a lot, but in the end it only took a couple of days.

The reason I had to use a nipple shield is because mine were flat and she had problems latching on. My suggestion is to do what ever you can to stimulate so as to make it easier for latch on.

I had to use a nipple shield and was able to transition pretty easily. For a while I would start nursing with the shield ,stop and take it off before continuing to nurse. This helped pull the nipple out so that we could nurse the rest of the time without it. I don't know how old your baby is but now that mine is two months old she is strong enough that we don't have to use it all anymore. Hope this helps.
