She gets constipated occasionally and I was wondering if giving her some water (not a ton) might help her relieve herself.

you don't say how old ur daughter is. you don't give a baby water from birth, unless they are formula fed. you can introduce water in general, by the time they are eating solid foods. a little throughout the day. You can feed prunes or apricots. that will help loosen stools.

I was told by my Doctor that healthy baby's do not need water. As soon as she starts solids then she needs water or juice to help along with the digestion.

from day 1. Use cool boiled water between bottles or add 5-10 mills extra to the formula when making it up. It usually works for most babies and when they get to 4 weeks you can start prune juice once a day

My daughter was born six weeks early and she's been having an ounce or so of cooled boiled water from about 3weeks old and it hasnt done her any harm, babies arent always hungry, sometimes they get thirsty especially if theyre on formula milk as its thicker. helps to keep their bowels moving too.

Aren't our bodys like.... 80% water anyways? I say yes, but my pediatrician reccommended no tap water until they're over 6mo. So if you do, make sure its bottled or boiled (and cooled of course) before you give her any. I have my daughter a quarter dropper full of prune juice mixed with formula/breastmilk(atleast an ounce of formula or two ounces of breastmilk) with every feeding until she pooped. massaging their lower back helps too.

one oz of apple juice an a oz of water helped mine. i also would give him a little water after his bottle, to wash all the sugar off his teeth,an his mouth so he didnt get thrush.

it depends on her age ive always heard for little babies that you shouldnt give them water because they get full of the water an then they dont get all the breastmilk or formula they need, my son ped told me i could start giving him water at 5 months but every doctor is different, but if she is like 5 months they have prunes juice for babies an prunes for baby food, but really if you dont want to do any of that, taking her temp rectaly will work an that works very fast, or you can use the top of a q-tip an put a&d ointment on it or whatever you have like that

also, id lay him across my knees on his side n rubbed his tummy, which helped a bit. a warm bath or u can get little handwarmer heat pad things, there quite good, i used to pu them it was just tucked down the top of his nappy on his belly and it seemed to relieve his pains. its also worth mentioning that some babies go for a week or so without a bowel movement, it is normal. esp if youve just changed from breast to bottle or changed their formula. my son went 9days, i was so happy when he finally did 1 that i cheered and woke the house up at 2am!

How old is your daughter? i asked the health visitor this question becasue my mum told me i should be giving my son water not always milk but i was told milk is all they NEED until 6-8 weeks, milk has enough water in it to give them everything, but if you feel she needs it then it wont do her any harm, just make sure its cooled boiled water, mums know their own babies, its what you feel is right. hope that helps
