How to get baby to sleep on back in crib not swing?

your baby shouldnt be sleeping on his belly yet! what i noticed is when my little girl had her naps no matter where she was i always put her in her cot or moses basket with the baby monitor on she wouldnt sleep with out it on then she started playing up so we put her mobile on and for xmas she got a singing glow in the dark seahorse and we noticed that when all thoses are playing she sleeps, we alsp found shes nt keep on the dark so keep that in mind

you know you have another option - my kids have never liked to be flat on their backs either. I always use this support - it has triangular shaped pieces that velcro to a cloth base. I position it so they can be on their side.

9 weeks old, your darling baby most like still does not have a sleeping pattern. A baby sleeping on his belly is not unusual, in fact very cute. Try wrapping baby in baby blankets to keep baby warm, then lay baby in crib on his back.

When my son was that little I was afraid to put him his crib, simply because of what you mentioned. I would sleep with him on my stomache. It wasn't until he was almost 3 months old when I started putting in his crib, with his baby mobile on.

swaddle swaddle swaddle!! I have a 6 month old baby girl who was sleeping on her back in her crib by 2 months . I had 3 months off for maternity leave and I was determined to get her sleeping in her crib before I went back to work. This worked for us.I could tell she was getting cranky and tired so I would take her into her room and swaddle her with a warm blanket. You have to swaddle them nice and tight. It makes the baby feel secure. Not only does the baby feel secure, it keeps them from waking up. When a baby is born they are not used to their hands or feet so any movement from them will startle them and wake them up.
Once she is swaddled you have to rock her in your arms until she is just about to fall asleep. Then place her in the crib. I used one of those baby bumper things that kept them from rolling over.
We used a mobile that ran on batteries so It ran for 20min. I would recommend that. The baby would stare at it and listen to the music and doze off.
Some people dont swaddle but I think it is necessary. It lets the baby and you get sleep.
By 2 months by baby was sleeping for 8 + hours. She is now 6 months and sleeps throughout the night without being swaddled but since she is used to her crib she doesn't mind it.

don't let her nap in there it is ust for fun when she fals asleep put in her crib even duringthe day maybe she will get used to it

Hi there. My daughter will be 10 weeks on Tuesday and i have the same trouble. What I do find is that you just have to keep at it, be persistant. Put your baby down half asleep as baby will need to get used to going to sleep on his/her own. Try having a little routine, I find this very important, the more of a routine you have with your baby, the better (even at these early stages.

Just keep putting him in crib.. if he screams then just let him, he'll get use to it. When he starts to get use to the fact that when he's in the crib, he's going to stay in the crib till morning, then try the co-sleeper if you want. I can guarantee that he will fall asleep eventually in the crib. That's how I got my 7 week old to sleep in my co-sleeper and crib :) hope this helps!

my son has always slept best on his stomach, and although i was very nervous about it at first, i kept his crib empty ( no pillows, bumpers, stuffed animals, ect) and he was perfectly fine. he's 11 months now, and a very wild sleeper so i still have to make sure the crib is clear...but once i lay him down and turn on music for him, he quietly lays there until he falls asleep

OK....lol 1. when my daughter was born in 1995 I was told to only let her sleep on her side or belly because on thier backs they could choke if they spit up. 2. when my son was born I was told not to let them sleep on thier back or belly only on the side and to buy a prop a baby. 3. now I have a baby in Sept. 2009 and I am told to have him sleep on his back only. If your son can lift his head and move it side to side belly is fine, but if not just be safe and have him lay on his side only. And as for the swing...my other son would only sleep through the night while in his swing, slowly but surely he grew out of it and enjoyed sleeping in his crib with a fan in the room. Good Luck :)

My little guy is 6 months and I pretty much take what I can get. Wherever he wants to sleep is fine by me. For naps he usually always sleeps in his swing or in my arms, sometimes in his highchair after he eats lunch & and night we sleep together. I've tried getting him to sleep in his crib. He usually lasts maybe half an hour then he's crying until I come and get him. It's whatever you feel comfortable doing & picking up on your baby's cues and preferences. If he doesn't want to sleep in his crib, in my opinion, you shouldn't force it. As for sleeping on his back, that's a tough one. I would try a wedge on either side of him and if that doesn't work, talk to your doctor about if letting him sleep on his stomach sometimes is really that bad. Good luck!

IDK we pulled our hair out trying to influence back sleeping with our little guy! Swaddling didn't help. He would twist and kick until he was undone. Eventually when he started rolling over we would wake to him sleeping on his belly. However I'm not promoting putting baby down on their bellies at all. I just went with my little guys preference after I was unable to control it.

I do have a bed time routine, bath, singing, feeding then bedtime and he follows that nicely. When he was first brought home for the first couple weeks he loved to be swaddled, then he hated it and slept on his back, unswaddled for a couple weeks. He then only wanted to belly. Due to the risk of SIDS of belly sleeping kids is why I am seeking the help of how to get him to sleep on his back. I have tried the swaddling gadgets and he screams his head off. He does love soft music and I can sometimes get him to sleep in his crib, on his belly of course, with his lullabies playing. But he only lasts a couple hours and I know he cannot be hungry bc he sleeps longer in his swing, sometimes all night. I do have a video monitor that I use when he is in his room. But it does not detect breathing, it only monitors the temperature of the room.

The most important thing is that whatever habit you create, you will have to continue. He will cry and protest, but as long as you know he is not hurt or hungry - leave him be. If you want to have to play music or rock him or turn a fan on every time he needs to sleep, go for it OR if you want to be able to lay him down and walk away, do that instead. He's old enough to go a pretty good chunk at night without having to eat. You will have a few sleeplessness nights, but lay him down and let him cry it out - start with a 10 minute cry, then 15, then 20, etc.- even in the middle of the night. Before you know everyone will be where they are suppose to be and getting some good rest in every night!

Hello, well first off, you really shouldn't have him sleeping on his belly in his crib. Sleeping on their bellies has proven to show a higher risk for SIDS. You can try swaddling him really tight in a blanket, getting a "wedge" of some sort (they sell them at target, Walmart, Babies R Us etc.) and placing him (swaddled) in the wedge in the crib. even placing him very slightly on his side may help too. This has helped with both of my kids... :) Also, there is a great video out called the "Happiest Baby on The Block". It's by Harvey Karp. He explains in simple terms how to swaddle a baby he has something called the 5 S's...As a Pediatric Nurse and Mom ...I really recommend this DVD. good Luck!! and remember "BACK to sleep" lol

I would wrap both my kids in a blanket and lay them down in the crib once they fell asleep if they woke up i would pat them on there chest till they fell asleep again if that didn't work i would pick them up rock them and lay them back down.but it's all up to your baby and what he likes...

We used the Kidopotamus and swadled him. It was very easy. We would put him in it and rock him a little and he was out for the night. I believe they still seel them at Babies R Us.

some kids are that way they just grow out of it. has nothing to do with a routine. when they are ready they will sleep in the bed.

I soooo hear you on this one, My son is 5 months old and I am now only starting to put him in is crib. This is what I've done, it's been a week and so far it's been pretty good. I put a fan on low in his room and put him in a "swaddle me" by Kiddopotamus. I put on his mobile and have just started with naps the sametime everyday. Last nite was the first nite that I tried putting him in his crib for bed. He lasted 2.5hrs, but I put him in his swing after that. I asked the doctor about the tummy thing, my doc said it wasn't a big deal. If you are worreid you could always by the monitor that registor breathing moments. It's expensive, but sometimes peice of mind is worth more, or see if a friend has one to borrow or try second hand shops. Baby steps that what I think. Good luck, oh you could also try turning the swing off after he falls to sleep,so he doesnt' get used to the rocking moment. All the best.

do you have a bedtime routine in place yet? if not try that (mine is: bath, eat, story, bed), then he knows when its time to sleep, and will learn where to sleep. i tried warming his bed before he goes in it, it didn't work that great, never tried white noise. but i did notice a huge difference once he had the routine. good luck!! =)

I have heard a few things, such as white noise, or making it warm before he gets in so its not cold sheets. they say to use a hotpad something to make the spot warm. we just moved ours in the crib and she had to have the mobile on the whole time. a lot of people just tell me to leave them where they will sleep they will grow out of it.
