At GNC there is a product for $5.50. It's called Mother's Milk. It is a tea that you drink. Follow the directions on the box for steeping. It says drink up to 5 cups a day- I only drank one cup a day. Also, oatmeal first thing in the morning helps as well as you yourself drinking some milk(from the store, not your breast).

My youngest would only drink breast milk, refused any formula at all. He was drinking 45 oz a day! Whew! The only way that I made it was honestly the beer at night after my final feeding. An imported beer from oversees works best. My nurse said there is a difference in the yeast that helps boost production. You should see an increase in about 12 hours. Drink plenty of water, but do not overdrink water. It will reduce your milk flow. I think the key is to drink the beer (you need to allow at least 5-6 hrs so that the baby does not get any alcohol) late at night after final feeding, then make sure that you add in at least two extra feedings/pumpings the following day and keep that up for a few days. Sometimes you may need to repeat the beer two or three days in a row.until your body adjusts and maintains new level on its own. The Fenegreek does work, just be aware that it will take 7-10 days to see the increase. I started with the beer and added the fenegreek also. I could not wait 7-10 for the increase. I was able to maintain for the entire year this way.

Hi, hope to hear how you get along with any of the advice, I've started expressing but only seem to manage enough for his bed time bottle (we do 1 bottle a day, at bedtime, so Dad can feed him). I would like to produce more so others can feed him when needed or for emergencies. Please let me know if anything works for you, will be trying to do the same here. Good luck! :)

even after the ladybug started sleeping through the night i would get up once and pump. she usually nurses in the morning, i go to work, pump, pump after lunch, feed her a snack when i get home, nurse at dinnertime and then while she's resting pump again and then she has her before bedtime snack! i've been loading up on liquids and my girlfriend recommended fenugreek - smells like maple syrup - which has also helped!

My lactation nurse recommended fenugreek (you do have to take quite a bit for it to work though). She also had me pump for 5 minutes after every feeding. It worked for me so I could stock my freezer with a little extra in case of emergencies. Of course, my son won't take a bottle so now I just use it to make his baby food! Good luck to you!

There is a perscription you can take that is suppose to help, but depression can be a side effect. My little one was in the NICU, so I was stuck with a pump for awhile. I always thought it was a choice, but I soon found that is not always the case. I eventually quit because I couldn't keep up the supply when he got bigger and the demands became more than I could handle. I guess I'm saying there's no need to pressure yourself.

I am a breastfeeding counselor and I agree with several of the posts-you should increase your pumping or feeding to every 2-3 hours during the day and allow yourself 4 hour stretch during the night. Increase the amount of fluids you drink and try to relax. I f this does not increase your supply if your baby has no medical problems you can try fenugreek but ask your doctor to put you on reglan/metoclopramide (this will increase the production). Hormones, stress, and nicotine can decrease the supply. Although alcohol can help you relax it is not recommended to increase milk production and certainly not when feeding the infant. Most will recommend pumping and dumping the milk within 2-3 hours after alcohol consumption. Hope these tips help.

I want to say becare ful with Fenegreek, maybe it was a freak thing but I used it and LOST ALL MY MILK!! I was sicker then a dog from that crap for 3 days. It was horrible. I know lot of others that used it and it worked well. As someone said a non alcholic beer, that way yoou don't have to worry about baby having it. Something in the brewing process can cause more milk. Increase healthy calories and water intake!

Fenugreek did it for me. I didn't find pumping did much, and it was frustrating because I was constantly either nursing or pumping -- I have hazy memories of my boobs being CONSTANTLY out. But when I started the fenugreek, I noticed a real difference.

I agree whole heartedly with Alison and Alicia...all I needed to do was to pump frequently to get the milk flowing more...tricks the body into thinking more feedings are necessary therefore you produce more milk. I have no idea about the fenugreek stuff...but the beer thing...I was always told that if I had an alcoholic beverage while breastfeeding, to discard the next pump before breastfeeding your child. Alcohol I thought could be passed to the milk...maybe I am wrong..but I would not personnally take that chance.

Drink water. You need to be drinking at least 64 oz of water a day. Oatmeal, brans, barley helps too. You can also by mother's milk tea and drink that 3 x's a day and/or take mother's milk tablets. But you need to try and not stress out. Stress can be a major factor ihn not producing enough milk.
Pumpming every two hours also helps. Though that is tough to keep up at night.
I had my lactation specialist tell me to have a beer at least once a week if not every other day.

usually pumping more, after feedings. Especially after the morning feed. depending on how often your little one feeds you could sneak another pump in between their feed. or wake up to pump in middle of night if they sleep through...
