mY 13 YR OLD WAS RUSHED TO THE ER THUR NIGHT SCREAMING IN PAIN...4 HRS LATER SHE WAS SEEN BY A DR. DEHYDRATED FROM CRYING AND HOARSE FROM SCREAMING AND BEING TOLD SHE WAS MORE THAN LIKELY JUST CONSTIPATED..FOUND OUT HER APPENDIX HAD BURST AND SHE HAD SEVERAL RUPTURED OVARIAN CYSTS! A DR ASKED ME IF SHE HAD HAD THE HPV SHOT? I SAID YES. HER PED HIGHLY RECOMMENDED IT.. HE'S THE DR... I TRUST HIM! WELL HE MENTIONED A HUGE LINK BETWEEN APPENDICITIS AND Ruptured Ovarian Cyst Symptom/SYNDROME AS SERIOUS SIDE EFFECTS THAT HAVE BEEN HAPPENING WITH INCREASING FREQUENCY... ANYONE ELSE HEAR THIS? OPINIONS? SUGGETIONS???? MUCH APPRECIATED!!

I haven't heard of any side affects except what I've read here, My mother took my daughter for an appt., and was told that she needed the HPV vac. and allowed it without me knowing about it. Needless to say, she (my 16 yr. old daughter), just a couple of years ago, her Dr. found roughly 30 cysts on her overies. Now she's pregnant, and I'm kinda worried about it and wether or not my grand will be ok.

I'm not a doctor but have kept myself well informed about anything health related since I want to be very proactive when my kids get to certain ages. My baby sister who is 14 has had the HPV vaccine and we did a lot of research before she got it. She's doing very well with it and has had no side effects. HPV is not for girls who are sexually active, it is a vaccine like all others to help prevent strands of HPV that cause 80% of genital warts and cervical cancer. Women who are sexually active and have multiple partners increase their risk of contracting HPV, so the vaccine is a measure of prevention for when our daughters are older, not because they are sexually active. Like all medications, birthcontrol, etc HPV can have serious side effects. I read that the older the woman the more possible side effects. I hope your daughter is doing much better now. The HPV vaccine is a 3 dose vaccine so you might want to do some research to see if it is even recommended that she get the rest of the doses.

It can be so frustrating when doctors push you into something without properly informing you! I am still many years away from this issue, but I am glad to know of this risk.

Thank you ladies! She is not having sex. But our Dr and others highly recommended it. My family also has a history of ovarian/uterine cancer so we have always been very proactive.

had your doctor mentioned to you that the HPV is caused by STDs? Is your 13 yr old having sex? If they are, is it with multiple partners? Or unprotected? Doctors seem to conveniently leave out this information.

here is a reputable website on vaccinations, I personally do NOT choose to vaccinate my daughter and she is one of the healthiest children i know( I have been a preschool teacher for two years now) I see children sick ALL the time! http://www.nvic.org/about.aspx please give this a chance - its WORTH YOUR childs health! we cannot blindly hand over our precious children to doctors, Doctors are not God and far too often, parents look at them as though they are.

omg Brenda I feel so bad for her! I never had the HPV shot, but many pre-teens/teenages around here are recommended to get the vaccine. But never have I heard of such side affects like that. I mean I always thought that the vaccine was a GOOD idea for teenage girls seeing that HPV is so common now but since I'm hearing this crap I'm beginning to think otherwise! I hope she is feeling better soon!!
