oh..and to add...when my son was first sick and they called it OCULAR HERPES, I went to the Internet and found all kinds of bad things..things like people going blind, etc. I had myself freaked out..but I do believe that if I am good about giving him the medicine...and putting sunblock on him..that he will be fine. When he gets older he will be able to change to a different medicine that is one time a day, but he is not old enough right now. So...basically, dont get caught up in what you read, just know that the medicine does help and that you are doing what you need to in order to help your child. Hope this helps.

Actually, my son has HSV in the nerves of his face...when he has a breakout, it tends to go to his nose or to his lips...but has been so bad that it goes to his EYES...and when it does we have to sit in complete darkness and go to the eye clinic every couple of days. He is on Acyclovir. We go to the Infectious Disease clinic at our children's hospital for treatment. Just had our checkup and since he has had fever blisters for the past few months, he is taking it 3 times a day for the next few months to see if we can get them to stop. The medicine DOES help. There are many ways to get it...even someone with a fever blister kissing a baby. My son happened to have been bit on the face by another kid with a fever blister. I know this can be very frustrating..and if you have ever had a fever blister you know how badly they hurt. Would be glad to talk with you anytime. argricher@sbcglobal.net

Quoting Alicia:
HSV type1 with babies???
My child had Herpetic Whitlow which is herpes of the fingers. Basically, they are cold sores. (This is NOT the STD) They did spread to the face as well. It's been a long while since the last outbreak...knock on wood...but she has had 8 outbreaks in only a few months. Somehow, she got it from putting her hand in someone's mouth who may have had a cold sore...I have no idea how she got it. The Dr's keep giving her Acyclovir (an antiviral medicine) which can have a potential to cause crystalization in the kidnwy tubular and may cause bone marrow problems. These risks are very concerning to a mom of a small child. Has anyone else ever had to deal with this sort of thing? Any help is appreciated!
