you should talk with your doctor, it could be a number of things. skin stretching and hormones are the usual culprit, but there's also a chance it's a reaction because of your liver...just call the doctor and let them know. it's everywhere? your face and limbs as well?

It is true it can be hormones and skin stretching BUT call your Dr. just to let them know whats going on. At the end of your pregnancy it can also indicate something is going on with you liver. I had a lot of itching and they ruled out this problem with my liver with a simple blood test. So be sure and let your Dr. know-Better to be safe! Good Luck!

not sure how normal it is but it is happening to me... i am 38 weeks also.. been doin this for about a week and a half... figured it was a hormonal something... because doctor checked my protein levels... so it is not my liver-- some women have their liver do something weird and it makes them itch- but i believe that starts in 2nd trimester with liver condition. I had my daughter at 35 wks so I have never been this far along..

YOU MAY HAVE DIABETES, THIS HAPPEN SOMETIMES TO PREGNANT WOMEN.
AFTER HAVING THE BABY AND LOOSING THE WEIGHT YOU COULD GO BACK TO BEING NORMAL. BUT THE ITCHING IS ONE OF THE BIGGEST SIGNS FOR A DIABETIC, I AM ONE AND THATS HOW I FOUND OUT.

I got really itchy at 36 weeks and the dr blew it off saying it was my skin stretching. 2 days later i was in urgent care because I had pupps, (Pruritic Urticarial Papules and Plaques of Pregnancy) basically hives caused by preganancy. It lasted 2 weeks, I used the aveno oatmeal cream & the bath plus what the dr gave me.

Since it is all over your body and not just you tummy, you need to go be tested for Cholestasis. It happens in the 3rd trimester. www.babycenter.com (good site for questions) and seach on the site for Cholestasis. It is not typically tested for. If diagnosed, they will have to monitor the baby a bit more as it can cause additional stress. Zyrtec can help a bit and it pregnancy safe.

Yes around the same time too. Especially at night and all over too not just my belly. Dr also told me it was skin stretching. I didnt find anything to help except benadril to help sleep + I have allergies. But it stopped the itching!
the itching is most likely caused by you increase in hormone levels in your body. and the fact the baby is growning an ounce a day at this point so your body is stretching faster. but dont be ashamed to ask the dr at you next appt. i hope this helps you

I would say ring and talk to your midwife about this, I started getting itchy late on in my pregnancy, mostly in my hands and feet (they were worse) and i ended up having to have my son two weeks early as there was a problem with my liver. a simple blood test will put your mind at rest.

When I was pregnant I itched all the time, I felt uncomfortable in my own skin...the only thing that helped with me is aveeno lotion the oatmeal in it felt so much better....hope you can find something to relax you and I believe that this is fairly normal seeing that your skin is stretching and forming room for your little miracle..enjoy your pregnancy and your baby.

i started to get itchy at the end of my pregnancy. the dr told me it was because of my skin stretching. Idk where you live but in my area it's started to get cold and that makes you more itchy too..and the increased blood supply can cause you to itch!

Definitely get tested for Cholestasis if you're 38 weeks pregnant and itching all over. I had this in my third trimester - it was not just stretching in the tummy area, it was head to toe! And unbearable. I don't want to alarm you, but if untreated, it can lead to stillbirth. If you have it, it is easily remedied with medication. It doesn't eliminate the itching entirely, but it is a little better, and most importantly, it could save your baby.

You might have something called pregnancy cholestasis: i am attaching a link for info, but you SHOULD definitely ask your physician to run some liver function tests since you're 38 weeks pregnant and itching all over!
Good luck, Jenn
