I am 39 weeks pregnant. I went to the doctors Thursday October 25th he checked me and said my cervix is really thin and getting ready, but that I havnt dialated. But since then I've been leaking just a little bit of clear stuff. And at nights the baby moves a lot and I get cramping with some pains. What could that mean ??

If you're leaking clear liquid, it's very possible that your membranes are slightly ruptured. That happened to me. The leak was at the very top of my amniotic sac, so when I was upright, there were no leaks. When I laid down, it would leak. This sounds like what is happening to you. I would go back to the hospital, and ask them to check you again for amniotic fluid. Mention that it only happens when you're lying down, so they should test you when you've been reclined for awhile.

The snot looking stuff could very likely be your mucus plug. Clear fluid could be your mucus plug as well but I'd give your doctor a call because your water could have broke and just cause it doesn't hurt a ton doesn't mean your not in labor. I went in because I was leaking clear fluid not expecting anything cause it was just a tiny bit and I felt no pain. Turned out my water broke and I was 3 cm; I still didn't feel any pain for another 4 hours.

Sounds like you have what is known as a hindwater leak. When you get a small hole in the bag of waters, its dribbles out every now and then. The baby's head acts as a plug, therefore preventing a big "Hollywood" gush that some women get. The issue with this is, is the need for IV antibiotics if you haven't established labour within 18 hrs (times vary with different care providers) of this happening to prevent infection. The mucous is "show" and will continue to come out right up to the point that you deliver. Good luck

Go and demand they test you for amniotic fluid. Losing it without knowing is dangerous and can easily be tested.

did u mention that your were leaking to your doctor, its something i would get checked out. My mom leaked all her atomic fluid within a week befor they realized what was going on, dry labor is very hard from what i hear. and painful i would get it checked and make sure that its not ur sak with a little puncture. if it was a mucus plug its usually thicker or stringy. Sometimes a little bloody, or pinkish, brownish color aint so scary either. If its green thats probably an infection i would get that checked too

Michelle, call your doctor. your water could have broken, or it could just be your plug coming out. Better to be safe than sorry and just get checked out. You can go to the er if your ob is not around, and they can do a simple swab to check and see what kind of fluid it is.

[deleted account]

A DOCTOR!! Call - it may just be urine from the baby resting on the bladder, etc. or it could be amniotic fluid - in which case you need to see a doctor to avoid delivery complications, infection, etc. etc.
My water never "broke" but a very small trickle AFTER they had induced labour. Call you OB - put your mind - and mine - to rest!

Sara so I hope since you haven't been back that maybe it is because you had your baby? I wish you would come back and update us all.

This happened to me and the Dr said I was peeing myself. I knew for a fact they were wrong. I just knew it, and I had them check to make sure it was amonitiac sp? Fluid and after they checked me 3 different times, it was. I knew that I wasn't peeing myself. Good luck. Ur about to have a baby!!!

Did they happen to do an ultrasound? I had been leaking with my 2nd son and started spotting. I went to the hospital and they were going to send me home but after they did the ultrasound, they found there was no water around him. Here, my water had been leaking for about 2 weeks or so.

I lost my amniotic fluild at 35 weeks with my first baby and didn`t know, so i didn`t see a doctor or anything. And my baby was stillborn. Make them listen to you.

Get to the clinic or the hospital,. If you're leaking amniotic fluid that can hurt your baby. GO NOW do NOT WAIT..have them check you and the baby for symptoms!!

It could be a few things causing you to "leak". The first one that come to mind is that your water may have broken... sort of.

With my first baby, my water broke like a flood. There was no mistaking it. But with my second, it was more like what you are describing. It turned out there was a small " leak" that would shift as I moved and cause the leak to become sealed again. Then I would lay down or move somehow that would cause more leaking.

Anyway, I would go see your dr. Or midwife and see what they think.

You risk infection to yourself and your baby if you are losing amniotic fluid for too long.

Hope everything goes smoothly for you :-)

my situation was like that with my first. But for me I to went to the hospital several times and told them something was wrong.I lost my plug on a Thurs,Friday went to hospital sent me home, went sat sent me home. Sunday I was in active labour and The doc discovered that my water had broke a few days ago and my fluid was low and ran temp of 1004 baby and I were very sick, she came fast and I hemorraged .Listen to your body and don't leave the hospital until you know for sure that your fine.my doc was mad that none of the nurses listened to me.

Sounds like you are passing your plug. Booger snot looking stuff, that could be tinged red. If our water broke, it will leak if you have been sitting, then stand up. But will stop leaking for the most part if you stand cause the babies head will literally plug the whole. If you sit down again, and stand up the water will flow again. Call your L&D unit of your hospital, and your gyno, go in and they will swab the fluid to do a test and see if your water broke. Good luck.

Let your doctor know. They should be asking if you have discharge at every appt.

Smell the liquid, if it has a sweet cucumber-like smell then it is probably amniotic fluid and should be reported to your OB, if it does not have the sweet smell it is probably small amounts of fluid due to the increased pressure on your bladder and relaxed sphincters while sleeping. It sounds like you are starting to lose your mucus plug but this can go on for a couple of weeks. You will probably start having more Braxton-Hicks contractions if you haven't already and they can get pretty strong at times. You need to time your contractions in length and how far apart and when they are regular in both length of time and length of occurence they are true contractions but if you live close to the hospital you need to wait until the contractions are around 5 minutes apart before going in. Walking will help progress labor and can even bring it on if you are close, as you seem to be, so go for a walk. Congratulations on the little one. Children are a joy. Hope this helps. Kathy

Micki, did you mean 37 weeks? Surely at 27 weeks any doctor would try to stop labour, not induce it?

Once the water breaks after 24hrs there is a risk for infection, so go in and get things moving

Micki, did your doctor really induce labor when your BOW broke at 27 weeks? ??? Baby's lungs are immature at that point and wouldn't make sense to do that. Did they give you steroids for baby's lungs and antibiotics 1st??

Are you still leaking fluid? If you haven't done so already, put on a pad, lay down, then next time you get up, check the pad. Could be normal discharge, or you may have broken your bag of waters and when you lay down that's when you get fluid b/ c baby's head moves up a bit and allows amniotic fluid to leak out. Pay attention to the color, odor and amount. Usually when ur BOW breaks its a constant trickle or big gush, but could possibly come and go with position changes. Are you GBS +? If you are, then don't take any chances and go to hospital. If this is your first baby, perfectly normal to be anxious and uncertain. BTW I'm a labor and delivery RN so I hear this all the time!

My water didn't break all the way so I just had small amounts come out now and then (like a tablespoon maybe). I was 27 wks. Contractions didn't start up so the dr started pitocin and broke my water the rest of the way. Definitely get checked. If your water is partially broken, infection can get in if you don't have the baby within a reasonable amount of time.

Sound like your mucous plug coming out and maybe some amniotic fluid. You can ask your doc to check babe on a fetal monitor, but if everything is okay than just wait for labour to begin. Walk to get it movingIs

Sounds like it's your mucous plug leaking. I had the same thing, got up at night to go to the bathroom and was wet between my legs, thought my water broke but turned out it was the mucous plug. Hospital sent me back home. Do a lot of walking and, if you can and/or are interested, intercourse generally speeds things up.

Your membranes could have ruptured up high and that's why you are only leaking at night when you lie down. Ring the hospital and let them know.

You are getting ready most likely to have your water break. My guess is you are going to go into labor very very soon.

Doesn't sound like your waters have broken if your not leaking fluid during the day. Once they break, they just keep going and going

I would phone hospital or midwife for advice

You may be losing your mucus plug. I would call your doctor if you're concerned or if your contractions pick up. Good luck and congratulations! :)
