How long should I wait to get pregnant after having my c-section?

I had an emergency c-section in Sept 2009. I became pregnant again October 2010. I am currently 22 weeks & 3 days pregnant and the baby and I are perfectly healthy. I would recommend waiting a year at least. After this baby I want to try again between a year & 18 months. It's safer because it allows your body to heal physically, mentally & emotionally.
I had a c-section and my dr recommended waiting at least a minimum of 18 months before trying to get pregnant again. I asked her why and she explained that even though it was a c-section, it is still considered a major abdominal surgery and that it's best to wait that long for the woman's health and the health of a fetus. She went on to tell me that there are risks for the uterus tearing open if it was not given enough time to heal properly before getting pregnant again and that it increases the risk of complications to the birth. So, I personally have chosen to wait. I'd rather be safe than sorry!

You have to be careful this soon after a c section. My sister got pregnant 8 months after a c section and because scar tissue doesn't stretch her uterus almost ruptured. Talk to your doc before you try to get pregnant again this soon!!!

You should wait at least a year before getting pregnant again. Your uterus was cut open and you need to give it at least a year to heal properly. If you get pregnant before a year, then your pregnancy could be high risk - you have a higher chance of your uterus rupturing. Plus, if you want to try for a VBAC then you need to give it a good year to heal before getting pregant again.

when i had my c section with my 2nd son the doctor said to wait at least a year but hed rather i waited 2 years.
although everything seems to have healed on the outside after a few months and ur feeling fine the inside takes longer to heal properly... if u get pregnant too quickly my obsteotritian warned me that u run the risk of as the womb expands for the baby it could tear where u had ur c section.

i have a friend who had her son in july 05, twin girls in dec 06 and another little girl sept 08. all were c-sections. her twins were a couple weeks early, and her last one was 3 weeks early or so. she wanted a vbac with her 2nd and 3rd deliveries, but were too risky. so it is possible to have c-section after c-section, but i'd be too afraid of complications. why risk your life or another baby's life to have another baby right now. if something happens to you, your 5 mo old will be without you. enjoy your baby while you can, they grow so quick!

my sister got pregnant 1 month after a c section with her first born and she was just fine. it's probably not the most ideal situation, but it has been done. if you are gonna do a vbac then i would wait. even with a c section it's more ideal to wait just because your body does need time to heal. i had my son 3 months ago naturally and i tore and had so many problems i can't imagine having another one anytime soon:) if you feel you're healed enough i say why not but don't be surprised if you have complications. i heard doctors like you to wait 2 years after a c section to have another just cuz all the scar tissue. good luck and let us know what you decide and how things go:)

why too early? i know women who got pregnant 3 months after vaginal birth, imm just wondering if it be just as safe?
The different between vaginal birth and a c-section is that a c-section is a MAJOR abdominal surgery. Your body needs time to heal itself from being sliced up through multiple layers of skin and muscle. You risk quite a bit of damage to yourself by getting pregnant so quickly after a c-section.

i know there are women who get pregnant soon after a vaginal birth also but you have to consider your own body. you DO need time to heal even after a normal birth. if you run your body ragged, you may not be able to give your children 100% but if you feel that you'll be fine then its ultimately your decision and good luck with your choice.

I had my c section 5 months ago, is it too early to get pregnant?
I had a c-section almost a year ago and I am currently 3 1/2 months pregnant. My daughter was almost 8 months old when I got pregnant. They will be 17 months apart. I did a lot of research about this and generally, doctors recommend 18 months between c-sections, especially if you are considering a VBAC. But as long as it is at least one year between them, you shouldn't have any complications associated with the c-section. Good luck and God Bless!
