Implantation bleeding. But 3 weeks is a long time I agree that you should see someone about this to be safe especially if you are pregnant.

Tammy, a period is when your body discards the lining of your uterus and the egg that was released. That can not happen during pregnancy.
It IS very common to bleed during pregnancy for a large variety of other reasons, like placenta position, friable cervix, etc.

I'm 19 years old me and my fiancé have unprotected sex all the time because we are trying to conceive i missed my period last month and have been spotting since the 17 of march i've been feeling a little sick lately after i eat food i got headaches everyday to every other day i took a couple hpt after i missed my period but it was negative i'm curious if i could still be pregnant i'm really confused on what is going on with my body so if you could help i would really appreciate it so if you could write me back at my e-mail at scottkatie76@yahoo.com

the brownish blood is old blood. you can have a period during pregnancy. my sister had bled during her whole entire pregnancy..sounds comforting don't it. but hope this helps

For those who think that they are getting their period while pregnant here are some site to visit for information regarding bleeding durig pregnancy. A true period can only happen if you are not pregnant since the hormones and slothing of the endometrium that are required for a PERIOD cannot happen while you are pregnant without losing the pregnancy. However you can have vaginal bleeding during your pregnancy which may or may not be of concern depending on how heavy it is and other factors such as cramping etc. This bleeding is why many people think they had a 'period" while pregnant but medically speaking, it is not a menstual period.

I would have to disagree with Jody in stating that you cannot have your period when you are pregnant. While I agree that it is not normal. I had my period all the way through my pregnancy with my youngest up to the last month.



When I found out I was pregnant it was a total shock as I was having my period at that time. Even the nurses in the ER were shocked. When we consulted with the OB they said that while it is uncommon it has been known to happen. Your body protects the baby and provides for blood flow that the baby needs but if you have extra blood your body will discrete it as normal.



This usually happens when women have a heavy period usually and will have a lighter period during her pregnancy but still will be a period.

Hi please can someone help me, i had a baby 2 months ago i had the normal bleeding after and then one normal period that lasted 5 days as always. I started bleeding again and its been going on for 3 weeks now its heavy flow and im cramping badly? should i see a doctor or is it normal? Thanks

There are many possibilities for bleeding during pregnancy but if the test says positive then the odds are greatly in favour of your truly being pregnant since false positives are VERY rare.

Bleeding during pregnancy is actually pretty common and can be mistaken for a period (but it is NOT a period since you can't have a true period and be pregnant), so you should get to a doctor immediately so you can confirm your pregnancy and figure out how far along you are.

I never had bleeding during my pregnancies, but it is possible to have bleeding. I have heard of women having bleeding throughout their entire first trimester. If this is the case, it is not your period though. You can't have your period while pregnant. It would just be bleeding due to the pregnancy.

Well, I have 1 son, & when I got pregnant with him I had 2 normal periods, then the 3rd was for 1/2 a day so I took a prego test, it was positive (so I basically had 3 periods, at least 2 normal, while prego). Now my son turned 2 on 1/21, & I got my 1st period since he was born around 1/11/11 for at least 7 days (hadn't had it in 2 yrs! Drs said its normal not to get it for a while when you breastfeed etc, but I need to make an appt myself). it was super heavy & not normal for me, & I havent had it since (I have been meaning to pick up a prego test). My only advise to you is to make a Dr appt as soon as you can to discuss having your period for 3 weeks, but it is possible to get your period while pregnant. You mentioned the bleeding before you took the test, I assume it all depends on how long after you stopped your period then took the test, I am interested in knowing your outcome & will share my own, I have some slight feelings that I am pregnant, but I amn ot sure if that is b/c I want to be, plus I have some feelings that I am not. sounds like you miscarried..I really don't think hospital is the logical choice. Has the blood stopped yet? sounds like if it is turning brown it is ending. Book an appointment asap with your gyno and let them know how long you have been bleeding.

Having your period for 3 weeks is not normal unless your birth control causes spotting. (Like mine does ugh) I'm not trying to come down on you too hard, but you should have seen a doctor about this at least a week ago. Menstrual blood being brown is very normal, it usually just means that the blood is old. I second Sara on going to the hospital, since you've got a positive pregnancy test, all this bleeding shouldn't be happening.
