I have 5 birth children and now may be looking at a diagnosis of PCOS. HELP!

My "sister" had to try for her youngest. Took her about five months to get preg with him when her first she got preg on accident while using birth control, and the second she conceived the first month she tried. She was diagnosed with severe PCOS while she was pregnant with her third. She still conceived him even with the disorder.

Yes, you will be able to. I was diagnosed with PCOS at age 28. I am now 35. My son is 18 months old. I didn't have to take any fertility pills. My OB/GYN put me on Metaformin to regulate my body, and a low carb diet. Within a month of being on the low carb diet, I conceived my only child Alex. It's not always a younger person or how many kids you have syndrome. It's when your body kicks into not working like it should. I know for years before I stopped having periods, I had all the key factors for PCOS, I didn't stop having periods until 2 years before I conceived Alex, and then I had to take a med to make me have periods. Anything over 90 days with no period can set up uterine cancer. We are working on trying to conceive baby 2. I will tell you a pregnancy with PCOS is hard, but well worth it.

I had no trouble conceiving my daughter - in fact my (now ex) husband and I fell pregnant only having unprotected sex twice (I had to stop hormonal contraception because I was having surgery).

This is despite having PCOS. Not everyone with PCOS is infertile - in fact it can be possible to be very fertile and still have PCOS.

My mum had four kids despite PCOS and other reproductive problems.

I have also been diagnosed with PCOS. The doctors say it is something that comes and goes. It all has to do with hormone levels staying regular. My accupunturist would say it has more to do with what we are putting in our bodies messing up our hormone levels. Lots of different things you can do for it but I wouldn't worry to much yet. I am 29 and was diagnosed with pcos last summer. I have a 2 year old with another on the way the was conceived roughly 3 months after my diagnosis. PCOS is still fairly new and many time women that dont have the sever symptoms are miss diagnosed like I was. PCOS can cause infertility but not for all patients. I know that my pcos fertility cycle is every 3 months, however this is only when my body is working good. I have had times where it took me years to get pregnant. I do suffer from an incompotent cervix caused by my pcos so am a few weeks away from delivering my second child but 5th pregnancy. I do have slightly heavy periods that can range from long to irregular cycles. I was only finally diagnosed last summer becuase my doctor did some blood work trying to find out what was 1 causing me to be so sick but also why after a year my milk still wasnt drying up or why I hadnt gotten pregnant again. We made the decision to put me on metformin to regulate my system. It made me feel a million times better. I started loosing weight after a 10 year battle to loose weight and I instantly became regular. With in 3 month I became pregnant. Not from the meds but just because my system was back on in working order. I would say even if you do have pcos you most likely are like me and have a mild case of it and will have no problem getting pregnant again if thats what you want. Also if you do find you are having a hard time getting pregnant they will give pcos patients with fertility issues clomid and that seems to work very well and quickly. Dont be discuraged everything will be fine.

Traditionally, a diagnosis of PCOS come earlier than later depending on the symptoms. Some symptons are mild and with semi-regular painliess periods that a woman does not know she has PCOS. Then, of course there is the opposite and extreme debilitating end of the PCOS diagnosis. I personally have not heard of anyone with this condition after several successful pregnancies, but that's not to say it can't medically happen! I know several women being successfully treated for PCOS after many heart-wrenching years of trying to conceive, and then continued to have more children. After 5 children though, I'm just curious if there is something other than PCOS like early menopause, fibroid tumors, ovarian cysts, blocked fallopian tubes, etc. Why would the doctor suspect PCOS now? What other medical issues have been ruled out? Have you run the gammut of bloodwork, ultrasounds, hormone testing, monitoring ovulation, etc? In any event, I do hope you find answers soon. You and your husband/partner may also need to come to terms of a complete family now, or consider adoption later on down the road. Whatever you chose, yo umight also consider some counseling to deal with these new changes in your body. Good luck!

There are several treatments available to help women with PCOS conceive, if you talk to a doctor or fertility specialist, they can help you. And at the end of the day, if you and your partner decide that the treatments aren't working fast enough for you, there are plenty of little babies out there who are in need of a permanent loving home.
