I'm so done with breastfeeding but my baby isn't

I've breastfed my baby for 11 months, but I'm tiring out and would like to stop. The problems? My baby won't take ANYTHING else. She won't take a bottle or a cup filled with formula or breastmilk. I've tried her on solid foods (baby cereal, pureed friut, veggies and meat) and she refuses (literally won't open her mouth for any of them). If I do get anything in her mouth she'll force herself to gag until she throws up. I'm going back to work in 3 weeks so she needs to learn to eat another way than at the breast at the very least and I don't know what to do!

thanks ladies. I think if I could get her onto some solid food for even a couple times a day it would help. She digests the breastmilk so fast that I'm still feeding every 3-4 hours and she's always up at least once during the night. Hopefully once I'm at work she'll accept some other food. There have been other days I have left her with a bottle of breast milk and they couldn't get her to eat it, she holds out for me. Flattering and everything, but kind of annoying. :)

Hi Melanna, its very tiring so I understand how you are feeling. But the benefits of breastfeeding for as long as you can are huge. But theres no reason why you cant cut it down - which you are going to have to if youre going back to work. I expect that once she is in daycare or with a childminder she will be more prepared to try a bottle - she associates you with breastfeeding! I think youve done amazingly well to exclusively breastfeed for 11 months - youve given her a fantastic start in life.

Have you tried not giving her the breast? Just offer her the bottle with the breast milk in over and over throughout the day along with different foods, just try it for a day I wouldn't let her go days without anything.

I think when the time presents itself she will probably eat for the daycare. Do you try giving her regular (not pureed) foods and allowing her to self-feed? She might just be mushing something and get it in her mouth the way they all seem to and discover she likes it. I certainly would not stop. Maybe try to get to twice a day, but if she isn't eating anything else she really needs the nutrition your milk is providing. SInce she is not doing well on other solids knowing she was still breastfeeding would give me the peace of mind that she was at least getting
