it's our first night and i'm following the suggested "directions"...let him CIO a few mins at a time and at my last interval of ten mins, the baby wasn't crying any longer but he wasn't asleep...do i still go in?

yeah brenden is 4 1/2 months and can only fall asleep by being rocked and i just can't do it anymore, i'm truly exhausted... thank you for your responses...they really do help!

if he's not crying but he's awake it might trigger him to cry all over again by seeing you. wait a good 15 to 20 min. to go check, usually the baby will just fall asleep on there own. not crying and being calm is a good sign.i know it sucks to let them cry it out, but once they get into the routine of it, then putting them to bed will get easier and easier.hope that helped.:)

no, he will cry if something is wrong. Stand by the door and listen in if you want, but it sounds like a rule breaker if you go in there. My daughter stays awake sometimes for another hour before she falls asleep, and i always wonder what the heck is so interesting in the dark. She is 19 months, om guessing yours is younger, seeing as you are trying to get him to sleep better. Its your first night, dont throw in the towel, just relax, it seems to be working.
