I just want an idea from other mommies on meal schedules for a baby just starting beginner solids... He has only ha and a little bit of cereal for breakfast and a little bit for supper with his bottles. Going to start veggies/fruits now but my question is should I give a bottle with the meal or a little later. He doesn't seem to want to drink a whole lot anymore after a meal and I still want him to get the recommended amount of formula in a day. I would just love to see what other mommies have done seeing as I am a first time mommy and doing it pretty much all alone. If anyone has a min to spare please help!

food first always offer solids before milk other wise their tummy gets too full and food helps them to hold down the milk as well if they have troubles with spitting up

Hi - I always give my girl the food first and top her up with formula (which is apparently the recommended way to do it) - except when shes so hungry she gets too upset to take the spoon so I give her a little formula before and after the food. She normally takes at least half a bottle with each feed but I dont track it too closely because she lets me know what she needs. As long as she is full, happy and looking healthy I see no need to worry (I dont actually know what the daily recommended amount is so tracking wouldnt help me anyway).

I started out giving my son a bottle and then a little of the solid food. We kept up that schedule until he was used to eating the solid foods and was very interested in them. He is now 7 months old and gets 4 bottles a day and three "meals." For example, he wakes up (usually around 6:00am) and gets a bottle. A few hours later (around 8:30am) he gets breakfast. We alternate back and forth through the day so that his tummy is never empty and he's getting all of the nutrients he needs. It's worked really well for us and my son is very healthy and happy.

Rather than give the bottle after the solids, I'd give the bottle before. Or give solids an hour or so after a feed. This way you know he's still getting all the nutrients he needs from the formula. It also makes baby a little more patient and receptive to trying new things because he's not ravenous.
