My one year old son can't sit up yet. I need help finding adaptive equipment ideas that are in my budget. He only weighs 20 lbs but has outgrown his bath chair. Any suggestions? Also, any suggest for putting him in a shopping cart with out falling over? Any tips are appreciated. Eli has CP and microcephaly I can't find any support groups until now

I'd suggest some facebook groups - search for some based on the area you live in for the most help for what resources are available to you, and search for some based on the diagnosis for some that are most specific to what type of help he may need and benefit from. As for equipment, Occupational Therapists are generally great at helping to find what types of equipment would work best for a child. For his needs, it sounds like a Rifton Chair for seating and an Otto Bock Kimba Spring step 1 for mobility would be most appropriate, but it's just a guess and there are many other types! Tumbleforms makes some great seats as well, but again they're expensive. Insurance covers these with a prescription and proof of need - best received through working with OT and PT at a therapy site and having assistance to get a letter of medical necessity as well as trying different types to see what fits best. If that doesn't work, appeal. In the meantime, keep an eye on sites that donate items or sell them for much less than market value. Some of these are:

There are many others as well, but these are the ones I'm a member of. Also, if it's a large item and shipping is expensive, see about a bid on uship.com since they will often ship it for a LOT less or even free for special needs kids.
