I got my ears pierced by a ear gunn when I was 7yo, I remember I was more interested in the earings than the pain. if its using the piercing gunn it is done in two seconds and the pain would be soon forgotten. take her for an ice cream.

I had mine done at 6 mos .....apparently i didnt even budge..,,,and I went with my neice at the same age and she just jumped screamed for a a second and then didnt understand what happend.......didnt seem to bother her either.......you can get both ears done at the same time at some places .....I work in a salon and we have lots of little babies getting peircings....and they all seem to do well....we do do them at the same time though!!!  I looked like a boy when i was a baby so my mom had them done so people would stop asking her how old her son was...lol......good luck whatever you decide!  we cant always put our children in bubbles as some would have us do

We waited until my daughter was 3 and a half and she wanted them done so I told her it would hurt but if she didn't let Mommy clean them I'd take them out and she's done really well it wasn't as bad as I expected it to be and it didn't really hurt her to much at all.  I just had another daughter and were gonna wait again until she's old enough to tell me she wants them done and then we will.  It's all up to you it doesn't really hurt to bad but I'd like to wait till she's old enough to tell me herself.

How funny Teri, I had mine done at about 3 weeks old. Never had any probs and I am much older now, and still have them! I asked my Mother about it and she said being that I was young when I got it done, I didn't mess with them as I became a toddler because it was something that had always been there for me. Just another part of my body:) Our culture has a lot to do with the young peircing too. But, my twin neices(6 months) had theirs done last month, and again, no problem! They use those disposable little plastic peircing boxes now, so it is not the sound of those guns that we grew up with! I brought my 14 yr old to get her second holes and she flinched, but she smiled afterwards cause she thought it was going to hurt...she had her first holes done young as well.

I did my daughters ears at 6 weeks and the 2nd one at 3 months.......they have never had a problem and the oldest one is now 8. Where I got hers done they put on a topical freezing agent and she slept thru the entire thing. The 2nd one I had done at the jewelers and he did such an amazing job that she just laid there and let him do it. No pain at all.

a child does not need their ears pierced anytime before high school in my opinion.

it is just a cleaning for like six weeks twice a day. my daughter did great with her earings, she was only 3 months old when hers were done. I had mine pierced when i was 4 weeks old. I grew up learning to care for my own ears from my mothers example of showing me daily how do this. I still to this day clean them twice a day! but as for your daughter it is your choice. It will feel the smae no matter what age but if they are younger they are less likely to remember it.

Oh, and I forgot to add that her ears healed months before mine! lol And I cleaned hers in the morning before she woke up, and at night right after she fell asleep with no problems at all.

I had my daughters done when she was the same age as your little girl. I also got my second holes done at the same time so I could be in pain with her! lol She did cry a few seconds after the pain hit her, but I gave her a lollipop and we went to see the water fountain (since we were at the mall lol) and she forgot all about it. I would give her some tylenol an hour before you get them done to help prevent a possible fever and also to help with any swelling or pain after they're done.

An article quoting the AAFP that, as a parent, you should "postpone the piercing until your child is mature enough to take care of the pierced site herself."

I agree with you Teri Finn, all of the girls in our family, and there are a lot of us...had our ears peirced:) And in response to the holes becoming uneven as we get older....I have never , ever heard of that? Ears are Ears, they do not go through extreme changes as we grow older. None of us have uneven ear holes?

I think it is better when they are younger. I had mine done at a very young(infant) age, my brother just had his twins ears done(6 months old) and everyone I know do their daughters ears early. Mine have never closed up. I am a nurse and and we actually see more infections at the site of the peircing in older kiddos than lil ones! We take care of the il ones ears so we know they are cleaned properly! Plus...it is something that she wont remember!

Honestly, I would wait until she's older and she can not only ask for them but also take care of the piercings. This will also prevent the possibility of uneven holes as she grows older since her ears will grow but the holes will not.

I think she should be fine, she is still young enough that it wont bother her for very long, my dr also told me it was okay to give my lil girl tylenol before her piercing. Now we just have to remind her to leave her pretties in. All the females in our famly have theirs pierced.
